This is the type of bizarre game that I'm always interested in: Band Mashups is (description stolen directly from penny arcade forums)
So the Wii is getting a rhythm game. Band Mashups is kind of like Guitar Hero, in that icons scroll up and you have to move your Wiimote left, right, down or in a stabbing motion in order to play one of 30 licensed songs. Yawn, right?
Wait.
You can choose to play every one of those 30 songs in one of five different ways: rock, funk/hip-hop, country western, Latin and marching band. Every song, every style. Which songs do you get to mutate horribly?
The Gorillaz- "Feel Good Inc."
Tag Team- "Whoomp! There It Is"
Tenacious D- "Master Exploder"
Ramones- "Blitzkrieg Bop"
The Commodores- "Brick House"
KC and the Sunshine Band- "That's The Way (I Like It)" from KC and the Sunshine Band.
Texas Tornados- "Adios Mexico'
Black Eyed Peas- "Dum Diddy"
Cypress Hill- "Insane in the Brain"
Kool & the Gang- "Jungle Boogie"
LL Cool J- "Mama Said Knock You Out"
The Fix- "One Thing Leads to Another"
Soundgarden- "Spoonman"
Def Leppard- "Photograph"
The Soggy Bottom Boys- "Man of Constant Sorrow"
You don't play by yourself, you're competing with another band who is trying to play your song a different way. The better you hit the notes, the more your version dominates. So if you want your country version of Jungle Boogie to beat out the marching band Jungle Boogie, you'd better be sharp.
Hmm, apparently I fail at embedding, just click the IGN link and the videos are there. It's insane awesome.
