R.I.P Vita. Good riddance. |
no need to attack for no good reason.
Its smaller than expected, but i have no intention of replacing my version.
I´m a hardcore gamer and I feel offended because Nintendo created a cheap alternative to the 3DS not targeted at me for 130$ !
Boo 2DS, it shows that Nintendo is afraid of something/ is calling for help !
No, I´m not happy that this revision could grow the userbase substantially to get more games on the system, how could you ?
All hail company XXX !

It's quite logical actually: core gamers' reaction to a Nintendo product is always opposite of actual market reaction.
Wii, DS: Hated by core gamers - smashing successes
Gamecube, 3DS, Wii U: Loved by core gamers - medicore to terrible sales
2DS: Hated by core gamers - guess what's gonna happen?
The actual truth is the 2DS and Nintendo's focus shifting away from the gamepad on Wii U are a return to form for the company. At least to some extend. If Nintendo wants to be successful again they'll have to do many things that'll piss core gamers off but will entice the mass market.

Nintendo also need some new names. I can see the point of cutting down the price, but you would have thought that with a gazillion DSs sold, they would have the cheap manufacture of a clamshell nailed. I don't really understand how this saves them money, though I do believe them when they say they do. |
The 2DS would not support a clamshell design because it doesn't actually have two screens, it has only one.
"Curiously, the 2DS is even more of a tablet-style system than it appears at first glance, as it actually features a single large screen in its center, not two separate ones. As one of their cost-cutting design measures, Nintendo reduced the number of screens in the system from two to one, and the appearance of separate screens is merely simulated by the way the case masks out the extraneous portions. This means the entire screen is by necessity a touchscreen, with the upper screen protected by a layer of plastic that sits above it."
Also the hinges from the 3DS are easy to break.

Wait, Nintendo making a good handheld? That's so surprising!

But is that cheaper? Are they not just the same as the DS, but I guess for children the lack of the hinge is then a plus point

As the resident GI expert, I believe that the writer of the article (Tim Turi) can go either way. But I wouldn't trust him, because he gave Resident Evil 6 a good score.
