This, can't be true.

It's quite logical actually: core gamers' reaction to a Nintendo product is always opposite of actual market reaction.

Wii, DS: Hated by core gamers - smashing successes

Gamecube, 3DS, Wii U: Loved by core gamers - medicore to terrible sales

2DS: Hated by core gamers  - guess what's gonna happen? 

The actual truth is the 2DS and Nintendo's focus shifting away from the gamepad on Wii U are a return to form for the company. At least to some extend. If Nintendo wants to be successful again they'll have to do many things that'll piss core gamers off but will entice the mass market.
