The moderation scales for the same offense. If you repetitively get banned for flaming, the lenght of the bans scales. But if you get banned for trolling, and it's your first time doing it, the length of the ban doesn't scale with your flaming history. 

Let's say you got banned 3 times for flaming. Your ban history would go something like this:

First flaming offense: 1 day ban

Second flaming offense: 3 days ban

Third flaming offense: 7 days ban

But then you get caught for trolling, and it's your first time doing it.

So you get a first trolling offense moderation: 1 Day ban.  

If you havent been banned for a certain amount of time, then the moderators will be easy on the next ban because you have shown that you are willing to change and can actually behave. If you have been here for 3 Years and have 10 bans for flaming, though your last ban was 2 Years ago... If you suddenly get banned for calling someone a troll, they wont permaban you. It will more than likely be a 1 day ban because of your recent good behaviour. 

I think the progressive system works both ways. Behave for a long time and the mod team will take that into consideration. Act like a dick for a long time and the mod team will take that into consideration.
