Apparently its now known that the 2DS is actually one large screen only made to look like two screens due to the plastic shell. So a user on GAF made this mockup.

Would you find this far better than their current design?

Could've remained same price but added tablet-like functionality beyond what the 3DS is capable of due to larger screen. Better browser experience, etc.

If the top screen is touch as well the system will cost considerably more. But that design is better looking.

I think that's a terrible idea. They can't do anything to the system that would split it off from the regular one. Then you've got games and software that are only usable on the 2DS. This is supposed to be a cheaper, non-3D 3DS and nothing more.

The 2DS is just one single screen, so presumably the whole thing is touch, it's just disabled/covered by plastic for the top half.

3DS games are made with the separation of the two screens in mind.

On the DS, for example, Twewy cutscenes used the distance between the two screens as a blind spot, the distance was also in the image.

So the two screens together would break that.

The two screens being touchable would cost more than it would bring customers, plus all games wouldn't be compatible, most wouldn't use this feature etc

It does look more aesthetically pleasing. Reminds me of the wii u game pad.

no this isnt a new system, thats for the next system(its gonna happen). THey want the same gaming functionalities as the 3ds so no one feels obligated

The 2DS screen is one panel (single screen) guys. Nintendo just split it up with plastic borders to mimic the 3DS/DS dual screen "look".

As for the OP, sure that would be better, as you're effectively getting a larger bottom screen that Nintendo is giving you anyway, but I understand why they didn't do it as it would probably anger some 3DS owners.

NO

HORRIBLE IDEA AS ONLY THE TOP PORTION IS TOUCHSCREEN!!! It'll confuse people even more IMHO. The 2DS is designed for kids and LOOKS like one meant for kids!!!
