Blame it on Obamacare.
because 3rd party hate handheld
PS4 - over 100 millions let's say 120m
Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m
Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m
Whether we like it or not tablets/smartphones are begining to take over. A parent can buy their kid a Kindle Fire HD at the same price and not spend a dime on games while you have to spend $30-$40 a pop on 3DS games.
it's smartphones, and Tablets. A lot of times before (Like when I was little) parents bought their kids games so they'd be quiet in the car and things. Now they just give them their phone with angry birds or fruit ninja a lot of the time.
While the games aren't as good they are quite a bit more useful for a lot of other tasks. The public transportation system is crap, which is where a lot of adults in Japan Game (and probably other countries).
Pokemon hasn't released yet which is what I'm waiting to buy mine for (Hopefully Bundle), I've used my little brothers for a couple games.
Seems weird u would single out one week without looking at yearly or lifetime sales. NA and Europe 2013 sales and lifetime sales are basically the same. Also this week was a holiday in japan so sales are higher than usual.
When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.
Because the ds was more innovative then the 3ds, which is why it was selling better

Japan has nearly double the sales and the country seems to be the size of California on the Map I once looked at. Even Europe has much more sales for the 3DS than North America. What is our Problem! There are a ton of great games. Seems like we are blind or something. What else does Nintendo need to do? |
I think you should look at population size rather than geographical size. With 130 million people, Japan represents a bigger market than the size of their island would indicate.
Also, Europe has a much larger population than NA. Proportionally, the 3DS is probably doing better in NA than Europe.
But overall, I suspect that for Nintendo the 3DS is doing fine in NA. Sure, not as good as in Japan, but a lot of games for the device are geared for the Japanese market, which seem to have a preference for overly long/involved/difficult JPRPG's with cartoonish graphics (perfect for the 3DS), not the action oriented and realistic looking games that do well in NA.

Really? I do not have sales numbers, but I thought the 3DS was following the DS's gradient in sales. Perhaps my memory fails me.
