Forums - Gaming - Missing Next Gen Feature?

If you were able to add one feature to either the XBOXOne or the PS4, what would it be?  I know that it always seems like we are looking for that one feature that we can't quite understand why it wasn't included.

For the XBOXOne - Wish they had added the play and charge kit.  I still like the removable batteries.

For the PS4 - I wish they had included the HDMI in with atleast a microphone for voice activation.

Obviously, I stole features that already exist.  Are there some that could be added?

As small as it'd be, I'd put an actual touchscreen instead of a track pad on the PS4 controller.

On topic though, I'd love for backwards compatibility. That'd be an amazing feature to have.
Other than that though... I can't think of anything right now.

Can't believe that I didn't think of this before.  This has got to be the number one feature for gamers, but obviously not for console manufacturers.

Supposedly too expensive.  They would have to have the (Xbox 360/PS3) in the system to be able to play the games for it, otherwise emulation would be very slow. PS2 emulation and PS1 emulation should be possible, but Xbox original emulation is not.

What is stupid is that the XBOne and PS4 are supposed to be so powerful, why can't they write a simple emulation app that can run on these "powerhouse" systems.  It shouldn't bog them down, they just don't want to quit selling the PS360s yet.

its not just about power. the machines of both the 360 and PS3 are very complex (the ps3 even more so) they dont use the same technology what so ever so you have to think that these games were specifically made and desgined to use these complex technologies. so its really hard to just emulate that, its not about the power really. its about the games and how they were created for completely different hardware

I agree with the complexity, but emulation programs can be written for anything if they want.  My guess is that they "don't want" based on the return(0$) they get for it.  If they charged for the emulator to recover costs, people would call them greedy bastards.

So the ever so powerful PS4One can't be BC but the supposedly "Wiik U" can XD

Yes and no, you can write emulation programs for just about anything, but another important thing is speed.  If you can only run the game at 3 frames per second, it becomes a gigantic problem.  At that point it might as well be a slide show.(Then again someone said 30 fps was a slide show...)

So yes, we'd probably be able to have emulators, but they wouldn't be able to run well.

That's kinda my point, if these new systems are "so powerful" they should be able to run the emulators at 30fps.

exactly. and i can name a lot of features that the PS4 can do that the ever so great WiiU cant.

PCs are "so powerful" too. Yet a PS3 emulator, if it existed, wouldn't run decently on just about any kind of PC you can build right now.

My PC is a lot more powerful than a Wii (it's more powerful than a PS3). Yet not many games can run decently on it using Dolphin. Although you can get a more recent build that will run those games fairly well (except for most Metroid Prime games, for some reason), the point still stand that just because the specs are higher doesn't mean it can emulate those consoles as if it was a walk in a park.

Emulators demand a lot of CPU power to run. And since the architecture of the Power PC processors are different from the x86, it's really demanding on any machine to run those emulators with decent performance.

That doesn't make those PCs and the Next gen consoles not "so powerful".  You just don't understand what you're asking of them.
