I see your point, but there are actually very few 3rd party JRPGs scheduled for 3DS in Japan in the coming months. Most of them are for Vita and PS3 (Legend of Heroes, Drakengard 3, Lightning Returns, FFX/X-2 HD, Chronos Materia, New Atelier Rorona, Neptune ReBirth, Super Heroine Chronicle, Fairy Fencer F, Tears of Tiara 2). There are only 3 of them on 3DS afaik (including Exstetra which is also Vita and will sell more on Vita like Conception II)

Just curious, are you the guy from GAF?

Except Final Fantasy, the other are niche jRPG. How many of these will sell more than 100k? Maybe Legend of Heroes and Drakengard 3. That's all.

The truth is that nowadays there're very few mainstream jRPG. 3DS has the mainstream jRPG: Dragon Quest, Pokemon and Puzzle & Dragons Z (It's supposed to be a RPG).

For me it's very clear that 3DS has the mainstream IPs, and Vita has the Otaku IPs.

I've had no doubt that Conception was going to outsell the 3DS version.

I'm pretty sure Extetra will too. (That one game that has you kiss people to turn them into warriors or something)

But did not expect 101 to bomb like that hard. Hm...wonder if DQ11 will be for mobile.

Hentai is considered to be straight-up pornography.  In the Japan, the word actually is used for "pervert" or to mean sexually deviant.  Ecchi would be the word used just for things that are "naughty", from panty shots to nudity without sex.

Anyway, decent week for the Vita.  It's sad about W101.  Perhaps it will catch on in the west.  Youkai Watch makes me happy, though.

It's a turn based RPG, admittedly with some odd dating elements in:

The best way to describe this game is Otaku.  It's designed to appeal to the super-fans.  Hentai is something different altogether.

I just assumed it was a nudity game when I google imaged it. =P I need to familiarise myself more with these terminologies, I'm not too adapt with Japanese culture.

That's a mild statement. No game on a console has anything close to what you'd consider hentai. Especially a game that's rated Cero C, which would be similar to a T rating in the US.

Are you inferring that those two statements are different? JRPG fans are niche otaku fans. There are a few mainstream JRPGs, but they make up ~5% of the genre.

Now to dig up the thread where i suggested the more likely scenario is the 30k was enough and retailers order that low because preorders suggested low sales and got argued with
