Forums - Gaming - Capcom's CEO tries to explain why Monster Hunter 4 is not on Vita

Does this really needs any explanation ?
MH 4 is not on Vita for the same reason some upcoming home console games are not on WiiU...... smaller userbase and smaller sales forecast. Sometimes the cost of reprogramming a game for a platform does not match the potential profit that version will get.
I know this is kind of weird, considering that Monster Hunter is a big hit in Japan, but comparing both Vita and 3DS userbases there, there´s nothing surprising about this at all.
Or do people forgot that Capcom opted to make MH3 for Wii first, instead of the other consoles, due to production costs and smaller (at that time) userbase of other consoles ?

its worth explaining why a big company has to decide between the consoles it puts its games on.

Monster hunter was PSP's biggest game and now its not on the Vita.

Its like how COD is PS3's biggest game, but if activision claimed there wont be a PS4 version because the install base is non existant and they dont have resources, people would go mad.

Its just BS. If you dont have resources to make your biggest game, you go and buy them.

If you launch a popular game, you dont look at the currect install base, you estimate the install base on the day you launch that game.

Jeez Vita fans. Let. It. Go. Already. It's been 2 years almost.

bayonetta 2 gets the same treatment, even though thats worse since it has 0% chance being multiplat!

But atleast theres a proper reason to why thats not on any other platform, so its ok. (and not many people care about bayonetta anyway)

For MH, they are not being clear about it which is so frustrating.

How much did they pay you?

Source?

Ongoing bet with think-man: He wins if MH4 releases in any shape or form on PSV in 2013, I win if it doesn't.

Meh. Vita owners have Ragnarok Odyssey. That's enough, right?

Capcom chose 3DS and they chose wisely. If they got paid a money hat on top of picking the portable platform that Japanese consumers wanted most, then good for them.

Nintendo fans didn't sit around and ask Squaresoft what the reason was for no Final Fanasty X on GameCube for 2 years. Or MGS2. Or GTA3. Get over it already.

They would rather have Monster Hunter be on the potentially larger userbase that Nintendo can attract, and they were spot on with that. Sony doesn't have a clue what they're doing in the handheld market, they got bailed out by Capcom with the fluke success of MH years ago, Capcom's under no obligation to stick around when Nintendo does a far better job building userbase.

Monster Hunter is not a franchise that lends itself to having the main entries on different, competing platforms. You want all MH users on one platform so they can play together as MH is a social phenomenon in Japan. Splitting the users up between two different systems does not serve Capcom's needs.

Well let me say it for you then!

"Vita's microscopic install base"

Wich would turn gigantic with a Monster Hunter game.

Exactly. The vita version would outsell the 3ds version despite its 'microscopic install base'

Wow. This is pretty sad.

Nintendo obviously offered them a deal. I feel like Sony should have done whatever it took to keep it exclusive to their handheld. It was the PSP's Pokemon. Anyway, now that the Vita is selling poorly Capcom have another reason not to release the game on it.

You're right OP! All this sudden and intense denial makes me think that PSVita MH4 is approaching fast. I would even bet on an unveiling at TGS.

Also, I find very strange that Siliconera had to close comments on this article. Would they have something to hide?

i wouldn't think that, sony fans keep burying a deeper hole with this MH4 on Vita, Capcom on numerous occasions has stated no plans even with less than a month upon release. As much it would help vita hardware and give it a great game, on 3DS it can easily sell 3mil+ vs Vita which could maybe to a little more than a mil! All im saying is dont get your hopes up......

I don't know a single company that wouldn't greenlight a probable million-seller
