Guys... what the hell? the *Stores* decide how many copies they want to order! This is not Nintendo's decision, japanese retail stores simply didn't order more than 30k copies. What is Nintendo supposed to do? Increase the shipment twofold without asking retailers?

Technically we don't know if this is how much the stores actuallly requested, or if stores requested more and yet Nintendo decided to hold off to create demand for the digital version.

If stores in Japan requested over 60k for the 360 version of Bayonetta, I have a real hard time believing stores didn't request more for an entirely exclusive Platinum game on a system that's nowhere near the 360's level of failure in Japan.

Either they're driving up demand for the digital version by starving retail, or they didn't market the game anywhere near as much as they should have.

or the more likely scenario is the stores order as much to cover as many as the preorders are suggesting it will sell

There's no way of proving what's more likely here, the only way things can be proven one way or another is for Nintendo to unveil the orders they got themselves.

Now what do I think is the case? I think they truthfully didn't get many orders, but it's because they didn't market. If they can't get more orders than a multiplatform 360 game in Japan, then that points to serious failures on their part.

Rare and Factor 5 both got dumped as sales of their games declined. Silicon Knights was let go after both ED and MGS: TS didn't perform great either. Left Field was also let go as 1080 Avalanche didn't perform all that great. Nintendo tends to cut bait quickly if they view a development partner as a declining or non-profitable asset.

If Bayonetta 2 does not pull in a tidy profit for Nintendo, my guess is that's the last of Nintendo working with Platinum.

Just curious, do you think Bayo 2 will turn a profit?

Depending on the budget the odds may not be so good...

Platinum just can't catch a break

It would have to get a lot of attention from the gaming press as a GOTY type candidate and Nintendo would have to market it heavily, but the odds of something like Bayonetta 2 doing well on a Nintendo platform aren't great.

If Nintendo puts Bayonetta into Smash, it will do fantastic.

But if they don't...

Is this a proven statistic? Put game on Smash=>higher sales of said game?

I am genuinely curious. I didn't know Smash had that kind of pull on gamers.

Would be awesome if true.

Not-so-proud owner of every current-gen system.

Next-gen is upon us folks!

It can't hurt, but I don't think it helps nearly as much as people think. Kid Icarus barely scrapped by 1 million WW and he was heavily featured in the last Smash Bros. game and Uprising was on a much healthier (sales wise) platform in the 3DS and was given a decent marketing push (by Nintendo standards anyway).

Solid Snake was in Smash Brothers too, I don't know if that really would've impacted sales of a MGS game on Wii or MGS3 on 3DS.

I liked the demo, but I wasn't a huge fan. I'd pick this title up if it is around $30.

I'm pulling it out of my ass, no hard data unfortunately. I just think it brought franchises like Earthbound, Fire Emblem, Metroid (in fact, I remember when everyone around my age still called Samus Metroid), F-Zero, Kirby etc etc etc to the attention of a LOT of people that didn't know all that much about them otherwise.

Sonic 06 really ruined everything. Really sad so many people won't give a masterpiece like Generations a chance because of it.

Hell, I almost didn't.
