All movies are thought provoking, even the ones that cause a discussion about how stupid they are between your friends after the film is over. Secondly, thanks for dismissing my points. This movie was short for a plot this big. He's not the only person who fears the size of corporations growing beyond the government.

People complain about the spoilers? Come on. If I told you that in superhero movie a radioactive spider bites protagonist and he gets superpowers, would that be a spoiler? The movie is a cliche, which not a bad thing all by itself. All movies aimed for mass viewer are cliche. It is just how people consume cultural information en masse -- through cliches, the same way they consume historical information through mythos. The problem is the cliche doesn't seem to work like it used to be, or works sporadically -- probably the reason why the movie is a bomb. I generally don't like movies with social message, but when they've got one and the movie happens to be boring it results in me thinking too much as you see it in the OP :D

Additionally I wanted to correct myself. The movie is not stupid, it's watchable. I'd probably save best words for some serious sh*t like "Cloud Atlas", that was some straightforward BS, as straightforward and stupid as North Korean propaganda or Fox News :D But people who got under the spell of "intellectual fashion", i.e. approved way of thinking, like it a lot.

It's interesting how in your political world Hollywood is liberal and lefty, which is true of course. At the same time it's true that over here Hollywood perceived as liberal as well, but undoubtedly righty. Maybe Hollywood should be more radical, extra-lefty so to speak, making full circle on political spectrum it will become somewhat righty for you? But for that they'll need instead filming movies about various Robin Hoods, create en epic about Che Guevara or smth. That'd be surprising :D

Scratch 30 years...make it 46 years after this year ends. You must also remember hispanic does not signify a "race" just ethnic background. When i say majority, they will lead the minority birthrate and immigration, meaning the immigrant numbers will increase but hsipanics will obviously lead the way. The caucasian populace outnumbers all ethnic minorities today but because of the rapid increase via immigration and birthrate hispanics will lead the rest of the minorities to be more than the caucasian population. This means that by that time a good chunk of the nation will be bilingual (especially in the south and western portions of the US).

This means the movie is not wrong that in 2154 hispanics will by themselves by the majority in the nation without other minorities.

Well, there's grain of truth in your words :D American patriots, know them very well, practically lika a family to me, are indeed people with contradicting points in their thought patterns sometimes. Free health insurance? You're commie. Free education? You're filthy commie. At the same time the very same person could use Medicaid, Medicare and food stamps, like half of Americans do. Nobody hates social state more than they are.

Truth be said though, social welfare has been overbudgeted in past few decades in many countries outside of the US (or should I say used to...?). It actually in some way answers why the "Elysium" is what it is. Social solidarity is perceived by Hollywood and various other kinds of "intellectual bomonde" only in the form of social welfare programmes aka philanthropy, not a different social structure or social revolution. They think that resources are limitless "and no one will go away unsatisfied", it's only some evil system or machine that is exploiting people and won't let them be happy.
