Forums - Microsoft Discussion - New Xbox Bundle for China - Looks way better then anything here....

http://www.dbtechno.com/gaming/2008/02/07/limited-edition-halo-3-xbox-360-for-chinese-new-year/

"Microsoft is getting ready to celebrate the Chinese New Year by releasing a new Halo 3 Xbox 360 bundle in China.

The new bundle Microsoft is putting out for the Chinese New Year includes a 20GB Xbox 360 Pro console. The bundle will also have two wireless controllers packed in, as well as Halo 3.

On top of that, consumers in China will also get one-month free of Xbox Live Gold.

The total price point in China comes out to $430 roughly in American dollars."

Now, not of that is really interesting IMO, but that retail box is what caught my attention, it looks way better then the current 360 Halo box.

with GDP/captia of around $290 (US) per year, I don't think a lot of the Chinese will throw 420 on a console.

most of them will continue to use PS2 and pirate games, that's for sure

Soriku (Feb 10/08): In 5 years the PS3/360 will be dead.

I think you underestimate the new Chinesee economy.... oh and the GDP/Capita is actually $5,300. I know still low, and who really cares if only 5% of the 1.3 billion chinese people can afford it.

Halo3 is officially a "pack-in" game and should be removed from any worldwide software sales comparisons, just like Wii Sports. /sarcasm

On a serious note, it will be interesting to see how the current-gen consoles and software sell in China. I expect the console with the easiest to pirate software to do the best there.

@gebx

Thats exactly it... there are a lot of wealthy people in China because of their population. Probably more than in America. Their middle class is much smaller tho... nevertheless PS3 would actually sell there for 599.

It's funny that some of you think you are smarter than a giant corporations research department... "they will sell 20 units..." Very funny.

Yeah, I think 360 sales will be hurt by the fact that modded consoles get banned from Xbox live and any online features. But from a developer/software side, the 360 will have a higher attach rate with nonpirated games compared to the other two.
