I'd rather wait for a PS3 price drop then get a new PS3 then get Last of Us main reason is because lets say I buy Last of Us, that is an amazing game and I know I'm gonna want to replay it long after I buy it, if Sony shuts down the PSN on the PS3 and my PS3 breaks then I lost the game forever, and I don't trust my PS3 to keep working, I mean the lense already crapped out, whose to say the console isn't to follow.

I don't know if it works but perhaps you can just buy the crappy 12gb-version of PS3 and then put your current HDD in? And sell your old one on ebay :D

I know its gonna sound like I'm super picky, but I'd rather not have the super slim PS3 and here's why.  With the disc loading mechanisn it has, or whatever its called, when you open it to put the disc in the lense is sticking out in the open (this is an assumption by me, I don't know 100%) so if my lense crapped out and it was protected inside the console then with the Super Slim with nothing protecting the lense I can only imagine it would break too.

1.)  Blu-ray lenses are apparently more fragile than DVD.  So you can't use DVD lense cleaner on Blu-ray.

1a.) Supposedly it has something to do with being closer.

1b.) I haven't actually found much outside a few users asking about it.

Well this is how my lense is right now, all dual-layered discs don't work, shame because those are some of my favorite games like MGS4, GoW3, and Uncharted 3.  For single layered discs, when I start up my PS3 it makes this weird ejecting noise then the game doesn't show up on the XMB, if I leave my PS3 on for like 30 min then turn if off and back on then it can read single-layered discs, but still can't read dual-layered discs.  Its really weird.

Try to play a DVD film. Usually, Bluray players have two lenses, one for BDs and other for DVDs, since it's cheaper to manufacture. If it can read DVDs, your Bluray lens is broken, if it cannot, may be other thing, like the motor on the lenses.

The price is dependant on if you have to replace just the lens or the entire optical unit (PS2 fat demanded that. The PS2 Slim allowed to change just the lens, so it costs like US$ 20, just for an example).

Well my lense crapped out like a year or so ago, don't remember if I played Uncharted 2 anywhere near that time, why?

Naughty Dog's engine streams a lot of data from the bluray.  They actually found out while they were making Uncharted 3 that they're streaming technology was too much for older PS3s and they were burning out lenses.  My lense actually died around the time I was playing through Uncharted 2.
