Forums - Gaming - Project Phoenix’s Director Explains Why it’ll be on PS4 and PS Vita and Not on Nintendo’s Consoles

Well ... if it is good I'll get it on Vita.

Playstation = The Beast from the East

Sony + Nintendo = WIN! PS3 + PSV + PS4 + Wii U + 3DS

If he wants it on all platforms, why not the xbox 360 or One then?

"Our main goal is not to publish on all consoles. Our main goal is to make the best game possible on the best platforms."

Quite surprising, because we've heard nothing but praise about how Nintendo supports indies nowadays. Though, I do remember something about that form not translating over to NoJ, admittadly.

No, like you said, this isn't the first negative response we've heard from Japanese indie developers.  For some reason, Nintendo of Japan is not interested in Japanese games unless they are from major publishers.  That doesn't seem fair, to be honest.

I'm betting that the publisher he's talking about is Curve.  They've turned into an indie publisher who seem very enthusiastic about what they're doing.

I think some of the rest got lost in translation, perhaps.

Still, we're talking about a small development team where most of the people involved are doing this on the side.  I think it's understandable if they're going to limit the number of platforms they're going to appear on.  Perhaps Microsoft or Nintendo will contact them about ports in the future.

Kingdom hearts and final fantasy is coming to it :P

Plus, it's an indie game, it was never going to set the world on fire, so it needs every sale

Kingdom hearts and Final Fantasy for 360? I think it was announced for Xbone, not 360.

It's a Jrpg....nough said.

1 Lost Odyssey X360 2007 Role-Playing Microsoft Game Studios 0.42 0.24 0.11 0.08 0.85
1 Blue Dragon X360 2006 Role-Playing Microsoft Game Studios 0.28 0.31 0.21 0.07 0.87

Only beaten by Valkyria Chronicles and I think White Knight Chronicles.

its japenese game.....................

6 Deadly Premonition X360 2010 Action Rising Star Games 0.16 0.03 0.00 0.04 0.23
2 Catherine X360 2011 Adventure Deep Silver 0.15 0.04 0.03 0.02 0.24
2 Lollipop Chainsaw X360 2012 Action Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment 0.25 0.08 0.02 0.03 0.38

So?

So you cherry pick there best 2 jrpg sales from 2006/7? (When PS3 was selling poor)  Besides that, the only reason for decent sales in this genre were games that released with a 1 year exclusive contract and even then some didn't fair that well, look at Eternal Sonata and Enchanted arms. The jrpg audience on consoles has moved from X360 to PS3 since what 2008/9..

Only beaten by VC and WKC?  FF13 doesn't count?  In 2 weeks Ni No Kuni will pass it, Graces will leg it out to match that and Xillia will destroy that. A list war of jrpg's is not going to bolster your agruement..

That contradicts all the praise I've seen from the other indie devs. Although, I think they for the most part were European or american, and not Japanese.

But what he says is rather contradictory. The systems have a lot of fans who'll buy your games? Well, why not release it on the system then? There's been plenty of people and other devs who've managed.

You're an indie dev, who's funding is coming through Kickstarter; from other people, because you couldn't get anyone else to give you funding. Now, I'm all for Kickstarter and it's a great idea, but refusing to publish on one system over another, which could easily provide a load more revenue for you, because of "rules" and the way one company operates sounds a bit high and mighty, if you ask me.

it's gotta be the NoJ thing because you're right that western indies haven't had any complaints lately.

..but anyways.  the response sounds really long winded for what is the real and simple answer, "..we’ve been asked by a very small publisher who wants to publish for PlayStation 4".

I don't "cherry pick". I've showed you the top exclusives sales regarding JRPGs, and that's what comes up. Maybe you can boost Ps3 side if you add Demon's Souls, but that's it. I dare you to find me another Exclusive JRPG that has sold better than Valkyria Chronicles, or, if you might, better than WKC, Lost Odyssey or Blue Dragon. There ain't one. "Audience that moved from Xbox 360 to Ps3" don't exist since a game from 2008 - Valkyria Chronicles - has been unmatched in sales regarding exclusive JRPGs, if, as I said before, we don't count Demon's Souls.

If you count Final Fantasy XIII, you're actually helping with my argument. You see, I didn't try to prove that "JRPGs sell better on a 360". Far from that. I just explained that there is, indeed, demand for this market on the 360. Let's look at FF13. Sold two million units on the 360. See? there's market. Thank you for pointing out Final Fantasy XIII.

Doesnt make sense he says no one is buying Nintendo consoles but hes ok with releasing it on a dead vita and a unreleased ps4?

I get why they dont put it on 360

The problem with Nintendo… You know, I like Nintendo and everything…but not a lot of people buy it.

So I guess many people do buy the Vita?

Just SAY it man: I hate Nintendo and their superior gameplay we can't keep up with so it's PS4 (and Vita for whatever reason we ever came up with)

I was counting Demon Souls and Dark Souls actually, plus I already mentioned Ni No Kuni will pass those bolded in the next 2 weeks and when Xillia's numbers come out next week it will be close to it and pass it the week after. Like I said, I already gave examples and if you bothered to read the thread you will have seen that I mentioned the game will come out in mid 2015 and it would not be financially viable on X360 at that time.

Of course there "was" a market a few years ago for this genre on the 360. But it's shrinking every year, like how FF13-2 sold 660k total. And where did I say that ever jrpg has to outsell Blue Dragon and LO? I said list wars because it pretty obvious that developers know that X360 jrpg crowd is small and not worth it at this point. That's why you see exclusives likes Tales and Ni No Kuni. Anyways, I'm done agruing this pathetic point with you, the genre is dead on the X360, you need to let the dream go man, MS has..
