I can actually see JWein's logic, although it's on the conservative side. If the 3DS sells a modest 9-10 mil to close the year, it'll be around 42 mil. We're currently in August and it has sold about 5 million so far this year; if it repeats similar numbers next year, it might have 6-7 mil by the end of September.

I don't see that happening, but it's not a completely outrageous suggestion.


Thinking it over, I think I was a little too conservative.  Maybe mid 2014.  It should sell another 10-12 million or so with Pokemon, Monster Hunter, Zelda, etc.  Another 500k to 750Kish in January.  From there, a lot is going to depend on when Smash comes out or if there is another big title.  If Smash comes out early next year, then mid 2014.  If Smash comes out in like March, then it could be early.

This is awesome. It will be the best selling platform for the 8th gen. I predict it will reach SNES by Summer 2014.

I don't think Smash is coming early next year though -- I think I remember Sakurai saying something about the two versions not necessarily coming out at the same time, and the Wii U version seems like the one they're prioritizing. So it wouldn't surprise me if the 3DS version comes out later rather than sooner.

Wii U version definitely seems further along based on the pictures Sakurai is posting and such.  Personally, I would imagine that the Wii U version will come out in May or so, and the 3DS version will come in the fall.  Hopefully, I'll be wrong and both will come out on January 1st :p

oh really? So your telling me you wouldn't want extra content for wiiu? Telling me that you want both games out the same time while not everybody can have both versions? Sales will decline a little cuz not everybody has $100+ for a game. Dont forget that they arent the exact same so they wont be the same experience. just my opinion
