I can actually see JWein's logic, although it's on the conservative side. If the 3DS sells a modest 9-10 mil to close the year, it'll be around 42 mil. We're currently in August and it has sold about 5 million so far this year; if it repeats similar numbers next year, it might have 6-7 mil by the end of September.

I don't see that happening, but it's not a completely outrageous suggestion.


Thinking it over, I think I was a little too conservative.  Maybe mid 2014.  It should sell another 10-12 million or so with Pokemon, Monster Hunter, Zelda, etc.  Another 500k to 750Kish in January.  From there, a lot is going to depend on when Smash comes out or if there is another big title.  If Smash comes out early next year, then mid 2014.  If Smash comes out in like March, then it could be early.
