Minecraft... What the hell?!
By this point one would have thought it was starting to show its age. I can't believe that it's still selling good.

Actually it's selling more and more :p Before retail release - 50-60k per week on XBLA and now 110-130k per week on X360 :p

Makes me sad.

renvenue didn't disappeared.. they are spending it on mobile games.. did you  know that the mobile software market in Japan is bigger than dedicated consoles and handhelds software AND hardware... http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=166140
smarthphone games alone almost beat the software sales for dedicated consoles..

And in the US?

Vita is basically dead. There's just no way people can continue to claim smartphones/tablets haven't had a monstrous impact on the handheld market. These are enormous drop offs.

The problem is that revenue has just disappeared from the markets. People are spending their time on tablets but the actual spending isn't there.

Now that there's an expectation of free to 99c, a game has to be exceptional to command even $10+ on a tablet.

game spending down in 2012

Atlus should have made most off their games like shin megami, multiplatform

Those sales are horrible

Last month Mobile in the US ($271 million) is almost as large as digital revenue for PC and consoles ($286 million).. which is impressive and  mobile is on the rise fast. I won't be surprised if it will represent a 25 to 40 % of the total market in the future (digital + retail)

DS holiday seasons beginning from 2007 are untouchable. 3DS has noooooooo chance.

Right, except this year is the third holiday for the 3DS. The third holiday for the DS was 2006. Unless we're going to say the fourth holiday for the DS is somehow equivalent to the third for the 3DS.

VGChartz

Based on the best guess we have for Wii U numbers...

VGChartz

DS had 3 holidays in that period.. that said no way will the 3DS catch up unless the holidays make up for the abysmal months. There is a trend though that holidays have become much more important for videogames than the past. With Pokemon releasing it might really push the 3DS hardware.

Anyways really poor month when your best selling console sells 150k for the month :/

I'm pretty sure the 3DS is well below the GBA in North America too for the same time frame. In North America for equivalent time frames it is often below the PSP too.

For example, July 2007 (2 years + 4 months for PSP) vs. July 2013 (2 years + 4 months for 3DS) is 214k for the PSP vs. 141k for the 3DS.

So it's having some trouble even keeping pace with the PSP in North America month to month. Japan is what keeps the 3DS beasting.

Its quite amazing how phones and tablets came out of nowhere and shit all over the dedicated gaming handheld.

At least the 3DS at least, is still posting healthy software and hardware numbers. There is still room for at least 1 handheld gaming device.

Edit - Just seen a post on GAF with the totals after 29 Months.

GBA was at 16.3 Million
DS was at 10.35 Million
3DS is at 8.85 Million
PSP was at 8.14 Million

That GBA number is incredible.

I'll say also that the industry has become MUCH MUCH more holiday centric. 360 was posting lower year sales than GBA but was breaking records on Black Friday for instance. November and December have become much more important for sales than they ever used to be.

Of course it doesn't explain the fact that the DS posted 400-500k/month in the US at its peak.
