There was no way Sony wouldn't put MP behind paywall after seeing MS numbers.

True, it always made good business sense, but I imagine they held onto free online as a PR measure to their fans. Now, they did the impossible and are starting to convince fans that paywall is in their best interests.

Must say, I am genuinely impressed with their marketing of it all, being able to do a complete shift and their audience loving them for it.

They were in the fans good graces after E3, so one bad but understandable thing in the face of all the good wasn't too bad.  I don't think anyone loves Sony doing it, but they tolerate it.  People have showed they're willing to pay, so it's silly for Sony to miss out on so much money.

That's actually a good chunk of change for them. Although I don't like the idea of a paywall, money talks I suppose.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

Since MP for PS3 stays free, I don't see $1.2bn PS+ revenue in 2014 or even 2015. They have to sell a lot of PS4s to get to these numbers.

I won't be up at night now that online requires payment, especially with the value that PS+ can bring to a gamer. I have not gotten it before because I have gamefly already and I don't have that much time to play games anyways so I would feel like i'm basically wasting money by not playing all of the free games

We'll see how Sony handles convincing the online community that PS+ is worth $5 a month.

Wow, I had no idea PS3 online remains free. For Sony to make $1.2bn, they need 24 million subcribers and that probably won't happen until 2016.

You don't know if it will be a snap. To me anyway, it doesn't matter if there isn't a choice anymore since both do it, for a PS gamer who exclusively plays on PS consoles, it is a change and there will be a transition phase. But I guess we will wait and see.

When I went to purchase a 360, I knew and expected it because the predesessor did it. PS3 as it stands was free and still is, as PS Plus is optional.

So it isn't quite the same scenario with PS4, as PS3 is optional, and yet PS4 is mandatory, where as Xbox was always mandatory. That was my point.

I think your fundamental argument is "I hope consumers will be upset that Sony is now charging for multiplayer."

The reality of the situation is that when weighing options, this fact is nearly obsolete.

In my opinion, $4.7b is too low. I'd say at least $6.0b, which is 28% more than what they estimated.
If we assumed that 25m subscribed for last year, that's $1.5b on last year alone.
Note: $4.7b/$55 = ~85.5m subscribers in 8 years.

Not upset as much as surprised. I just believe it won't be met with open arms either, just as Live was in 2002.

It isn't crazy to think it would take a few years for PS Plus to truly explode in subs on PS4. Thats all.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

I dont think its low seeing that i believe that PS+ is mostly a money losing venture. Ive seen the free games thing as a way to attract people to the platform and they likely lose money from most subscribers. Cant give away multiple newer retail games a month and make money. They loss lead so that people will buy more software/dlc on their system and hope to make it up.

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.
