Forums - Movies & TV - I know there is a lot of Hardcore Kung Fu Panda fans that like this film.. but i just dont like kung fu panda 2

I always hear from the fans of the kung fu panda series is that "its the perfect movie!", or "it deserved more box office, cant believe it dissapointed dreamworks in the box office!" ect... ect..

And I left the theater, just saying...meh. I mean it was alright in my opinion, but it just lacked something for me. The Jokes wernt as funny, the side characters were completly irrelevent this time. IDK it just didn't work for me. I think my main flaw is that how everyone is all the suden, best friends with Po after not liking him in the first. Especially the tiger, she just hated him in the first, and all the sudden she forms a close bond with him? Why? Why are they friends now? i would have liked an explanation other than "well he is good at karate now, so she likes him. deal with it"

The film just didnt do it for me i guess :/ am i weird vgchartz?!?!

They're showing this in theaters just now!!

Anyways some time passes between the first and second movie so the audience should assume that their relationship grew in time. But yeah nothing special about the second and even the first movie. They're just entertaining fun for families with kids.

It's overrated trash.

Hmmm. Wasn't aware that Kung Fu Panda got that much fan-acclaim.

A lot of animated films have been soulless for a while now, I think it coincided with everything going CG.

Ultimately, the reason KFP2 sucked is this: It is the result of a bunch of fat movie execs, sitting in a room somewhere planning a sequel. It's a sequel, so even the glimmer of originality is gone. For them it is all about, what's safe, what's worked well before and what will bring a decent return from minimal risk. Artistic integrity is out the window and these people plan to spoon feed you warm diahorrea in exchange for your money. What you are left with is something aimed at children with a few gags for the parents. An ultimately empty experience.

If you are looking for worthwhile animated movies with soul I recommend you try some Studio Ghibli stuff or some earlier Disney. Honestly, you won't regret it.

Too much planning, and you'll never get anything done.

I disagree with you completely.  Films like Finding Nemo, Toy Story, WALL-E, and recently, Dispicable Me have had tons of heart.

On the other hand, look at some of Disney's last animated efforts, like Home on the Range, Treasure Planet, Brother Bear, and Atlantis.  Yeah, not many classics there.  It really has little to do with the style of animation but rather the quality of the story and characters.

Are you absolutely sure you disagree with me completely? Do you disagree with everything I've written in the post or just the first two lines? We at least partially agree that early Disney is much better than the identikit crap they've released recently.

Finding Nemo was a wonderful film and an exception to the rule. Toy Story was okayish but I never understood the hype. Wall E was toilet imho.

Japanese animated films seem to take greater artistic leaps than Western ones while not jumping on every fad. A lot of them use CG for backgrounds but stick to conventional animation for faces, recognising it is more expressive.

In conclusion, I find it odd people make distinctions between say Cars 1 & 2 or KFP 1 or 2 being better. No matter which turd is browner and smellier, it's all just shit to be avoided.

CG or not, animated films have been good in the past few years. The story and characters matter more in Animated films than the use of the animation. Since they aren't real things, they must be represented on screen well. Pixar films in the past year blow your statement out of the water.

OT: Kung Fu Panda 1 was alright. I liked the premise, but not necessarily Jack Black. Kung Fu Panda 2 was... yuck.

I guess it did better than I thought since they made a game about it. What? Mists Of Pandaria is not a Kung Fu Panda movie game?

Dont put those shows in the same sentence with Home on the range.
