Finding Nemo was a wonderful film and an exception to the rule. Toy Story was okayish but I never understood the hype. Wall E was toilet imho.

Japanese animated films seem to take greater artistic leaps than Western ones while not jumping on every fad. A lot of them use CG for backgrounds but stick to conventional animation for faces, recognising it is more expressive.

CG or not, animated films have been good in the past few years. The story and characters matter more in Animated films than the use of the animation. Since they aren't real things, they must be represented on screen well. Pixar films in the past year blow your statement out of the water.

OT: Kung Fu Panda 1 was alright. I liked the premise, but not necessarily Jack Black. Kung Fu Panda 2 was... yuck.
