Can KH3 sell as well as KH1 and 2?

So the other two main console iteriations of the series sold 5.85mill for KH and 4.07mill for KH2.  I don't think the handheld games (they are not spinoffs -.-) represent how the series is doing because lets be honest, numbered entries in a series tend to sell way better, its just the way it is.  Also those games were on different consoles from what the main games were on.

Now Tetsuya has said the production values for KH3 will rival FF15 and that scares me a little because I don't think the game will pull anywhere near the numbers it got with the first 2 games and SE might drop the series to handhelds only when they make a loss on the game.  I expect it to sell maybe 2-3mill lifetime sales, considering this is only coming out on next gen consoles and will be out in 2015 when the install base will still be rather small (If you want to know why I'm so sure about 2015 - http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=163903).

Also its well known that the story in KH games is hard to follow unless you end up playing all the games in the series, every game (except re:coded) adds a huge portion to the overall story and if you miss one then your screwed.  Now the HD collections do give people the chance to get all caught up with the story, but lets be honest HD collections don't tend to sell very well.  At this point its basically the people that are already KH fans will buy KH3, there will be some new people, but that number will be very low.  Since its been so long since the last console release I think a large portion of the fans either gave up on the series, don't play video games anymore, or grew out of the series (that's not how I think, but some people do).  So you basically take the number from the last console release, 4.07mill, subtract all the gamers that I listed and add the small number of people coming into the series.

I think 2-3mill sales sounds about right, what do you guys think?

Edit: 1.5-2m PS4

I think it's too tough to tell at this point. Details on the ground are scarce, and the game hasn't had time to build momentum or garner attention.

Will probably want to wait for more before rendering an opinion.

I believe in honesty, civility, generosity, practicality, and impartiality.

Advantage= 2systems, even though 3 would help(no wiiu)!

yes i think if they get the game hype and show off the power of next gen its possible to break at least 3mil.

I would of bought the game as i love KH(not as much as every1 else) on wiiu day1! my bro played both nintendo handhelds, and both beat KH (and he beat 2).

This game will do good, its name has great value, one of the best fighting combats in gaming imo!

PS4= 3.2mil
X1=800k

(sony+nintendo are better for KH imho than M${

ffv and kh3 will be a huge hit in japan

I could definitely see it do 4-5 million. The game has been hyped to hell, and got a lot of attention since its reveal. It's also releasing on multiple platforms this time around. And as for what you said about a 2015 release, that's two years after the consoles launch. The original KH released in 2002, two years after the PS2 launched.

Ya I really wish it was coming out for Wii U.  That really sucks for Nintendo only fans to play the handheld games and never play a main numbered game.  Hopefully Wii U sales really pick up and SE changed their mind.

Well when PS2 launched it was selling out everywhere, Sony personally shipped more consoles over to help with the demand, it sold like crazy its first years.  I doubt the PS4 will be able to replicate that, don't get me wrong it will sell out at launch, but the install base 2 years in won't be as big as the PS2's, even if you add the PS4+X1.  But that's just what I think.

Even the PS3+360 combined sales in the first 2 years were better than the PS2's first 2 year's sales IIRC, so I can't imagine how PS4+X1 will have issues exceeding the install base.

Really?  That's surprising to hear, considering the PS3 had such a slow start, guess I was wrong.

I think it could, the game will most likely be out, at the end off the generation, so there will be a high userbase to sell too

I'm thinking, 4.3m PS4
600k Xone
