Nintendo likes printing copies of their games based on the mood they are in or on the rare occasion of visible meteorite shower. They sell Wii U as a system with backwards compatibility but it is hard to find many of the wii games unless one goes on a crusade from store to store just to find a legitimate new copy of the game.

It is such a joy to give them money.

I can honestly think of 2 Wii games that are pretty expensive in America (Xenoblade and Metroid Prime Trilogy)

The cirsumstances surrounding the former are well explained but about the MPT: It was conceived as a collector´s item from the beginning to "do something for the fans by putting all the games together on a single disc in a collector[']s 'trilogy' edition" (Bryan Walker @ Retro to Mikael Kelbaugh, the president of Retro.

That game hit the bargain bin very soon because nobody bought it (there are many stories circulating around the web of discounted trilogys etc.)

People wanted to wait (for a price drop)...and it did bite them in the ass !

Wat?  Three games in one, games from the previous generation at that, and people wanted a price drop?  Just... wat?

I'm not mad at anyone, but is Gamestop selling pirated copies?!?

I never said they were obligated to print new copies, I said they don't listen to their fans which is obvious since nothing is stopping them from printing more copies and they still refuse to do so despite the outcry.

They brought Xenoblade over the pond  after the long outcry that was Operation Rainfall (they said that this wasn´t the reason, but that is obviously not 100% true), they gave you and all their fans the chance to buy it brand new for 50$, if the so called fans were unable to get a copy/support Xenoblade in a reasonable timeframe (the game was available for more than 2-3 months) it is their fault for not being a good fan (and no, the "money problem" argument really can´t be applied when a game is available for over 2 months)

Edit: I know that I may sound like a dick, but this blame shifting  seems really unfair to me !

Well i was bit off topic as i was talking about regular wii games no where to be found in stores. Metroid Prime 3: Corruption in finally found a used copy (no new ones to be found). Punch Out Wii managed to find one new copy after searching 3 game stores. Pikmin 2 for Wii is another one hard  to find.

I know the generation for Wii is over but it would have helped people who picked up Wii U if some of the better games of Wii were not in such short supply. Again not the end of the world for me. It gets quite annoying at times though.

GameStop deserves some blame... but the original poster is right, so does Nintendo.

Even if Nintendo didn't want to print more discs, they could put Xenoblade, Punch-Out! (2009), Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, Metriod Prime Trilogy and other games that are out of print on their Wii U eShop. The system is able to handle Wii U retail titles downloaded to it, there is nothing stopping Nintendo from putting GC or Wii titles on it aside from potentially trying re-release the games later a la Wind Waker.

So yes Gamestop is robbing people by charging gamers up to $100 to play one of the most critically lauded RPGs of the previous generation. But no doubt, Nintendo is basically a silent partner if within the next few months they do nothing about it.

2010 was when I got my PS3 so i was pretty much broke, when I did get cash I obviously wanted to buy a couple games for it and not just let it sit around.  I guess that means I lose the chance to ever play Xenoblade huh?  I mean dam the game wasn't even around for the holiday season.

Is there some kind of logic behind their refusal?  Why would they agree to make it gamestop-exclusive?  Is the information easily found?

Reggie is a douchebag. That's pretty much it.

Hmm... so it was Reggie's call?

Xenoblade was released on April 6th 2012 in the US

They should make ~600k extra copies, that should help the demand.

Hmmm... this was in a timeframe where I could have got the game, but before the time I knew I could.  I probably would have bought the game if I had looked further into it.  Joined this site around the same time I started actually looking into games.  A bit too late, I would say.  Sad that I missed the game.  If I were this active back then, I wouldn't have missed my chance.
