"Losing money on the PS4"

Ah, again losing money on a console. I know that was Not planned or expected. Well at least their have their insurance business to make them money.

It's kinda sad that the better the PS4 sells, the more the company will lose.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Software, Soft-Ware, Saw-Fift-Where. Now say it with me: Software! Websters defines it as something used or associated with and usually contrasted with hardware.

Any ideas how many games they have to sell just to break even?

I remember last year it was like one or a little more than one for the WiiU.  It's probably at least a couple at full price,  plus with the changes in the dollar vs the yen.

Plus, the most pre ordered game for their new system is BattleField 4, which isn't there game.  Time to short.

Well I haven't seen anything showing me that Sony is taking a loss on each PS4 sold nor have I seen anything stating that they aren't. So lets assume they are taking a loss on each unit, 1-2 games sold would definately seem most likely to flip a profit on each unit.

Sony announced it themselves and warned the investors.  It is then compounded and hitting them harder that the yen is losing over the dollar.  They had planned not to lose money PS4, but it's not working out that way.

Thanks.. I admit I just did a brief google search to see if Sony stated about losing money on each unit. So ya know that software I mentioned earlier? Yeah they're gonna need to sell a good amount for the first few years, especially if they want to be profitable this time around.

LOL @ Minecraft being called a "AAA game".

LOL in general at most of that. I don't think PS4 will be a failure, whether this OP was a joke or not. But I also don't think it's going to be ANYWHERE near as "red hot" successful right out of the gate, and "already won the generation" as many around here act like. Fact is, the launch window lineup right now doesn't look TOO hot (neither does One though), and there is just no way at all, that Sony is touting all this high-scale tech in the system, and NOT losing money on every unit sold selling it at $400. Just no way.

I think PS4 will do better initially than PS3 did. But I don't think it's going to be a years-long runaway success like many seem to think.

Surely BF4 is a great game to have lots of preorders on? They'll sell a year of PS+ with each copy. That's already near 2 games worth of sales, maybe more as they get all the PS+ money directly.

PSN: Osc89

NNID: Oscar89

You forgot to mention that you don't get a nice power brick with the PS4 another feature missed , It also means their competition will be solely responsible for helping me withthe next gen extend of my house , all those power bricks plus the bricked consoles due to rrod gave me enough bricks to build my house , now I want to expand and it looks like Sony cares nothing for the building industry .
