I posted this comic over in another religiously themed thread, and I thought it deserved its own thread.

Put simply, this is basically exactly how I feel about religion in a kinder, gentler comic style!  (you know, without the acid and anger I usually exhibit.)

This comic has the theology/philosophy level of 13 year old who thinks he is cleaver because he is repeating something he deems original but has been repeated by other 13 year olds for years.

Congrats.

Thread is already a bitch to scroll through guys, let's avoid quoting the OP in full if at all possible. Moderating from a touch screen these days so I guess I care more than I used to.

...

Usually I stay out of these debates and i am not going to say I agree or disagree.

What I will say is it is annoying to here both sides preach that they are right and the other is wrong. That goes for both religious and non-religious people.

Here lately I have seen non-religious people preach a lot via internet and how the other group is wrong and that they are foolish to believe in God etc. Funny since non-religious people are complaining that they are doing the same to them.

It goes both ways. The way I've always operated is if you are a cool, good person then Im cool with you. If you are a dick then that is a different story. But I dont go preaching to people about what they should and should not believe in. If you want to worship a fly on a pile of shit then do so. And if you dont want to worship anything at all that is fine as well. But stop being so condescending against each other and people's beliefs. Religous or non-religous.

I think that general sentiment words very well on a personal level and has been what I've tried my best to adopt, but things change when you think of these things on a larger scale.  Things like gay and women's rights, and science education are being decided by people based on their religion which I find deplorable and is when I put that general rule aside and think it's best to start arguing my side on this.  I don't want to be governed based off a religion I don't even believe in, and I don't think that's what the US was meant to be in the first place.

I feel that if it is effecting people in a negative way such as Gay Rights people should take a stand as no one group should control a nation.  Otherwise I think the preachiness is a bit annoying from both sides.

Brad Pitt - -"Like gay marriage, you got a group of people telling another group of people how to live their lives, and you can't do that. You really have to check what country you are living in because the freedom that allows you to practice religion is the same freedom you are stepping on, and that's not right. And I want to add that if there was a nation of gay married couples who were telling you that you couldn't practice religion I'd be speaking out for you too. So let's stop the nonsense."

40% of Americans believe the Sun revolves around the Earth and God supplanted humans on Earth less than 10,000 years ago.

And you wonder why the non-religious have a problem with these scientifically illiterate simpletons.

It is DESTRUCTIVE. There is no "hey man, let anyone believe what they want." Then what the fuck is the point of education? Aren't we supposed to be passing off KNOWLEDGE, not BULLSHIT? Oh you believe that the light spectrum is only 3 wavelengths? Fascinating, but wrong. Do you understand yet?

Time to get a clue and stop purporting unsubstantiated belief systems as dogma.

Much like today the scientific community and its acolytes shun creationist scientists.

There's nothing new under the sun.

The Earth doesn't go around the Sun?

Fixed. Lol! It's difficult to type nonsense. :O

One can be very knowledgable and have a religion. I think it has nothing to do with how intelligent a person is.

No doubt, but one can have much knowledge about the stock market and no knowledge of physics, biology, chemistry, anthropology - hence scientifically illiterate.

The point is not that these people are stupid, it's that religion allows them to say these things without question. It is accepted even when evidence defeats the faith position. It's very dangerous.
