Forums - Nintendo - Japanese Wii U Sales have more than Doubled Since Pikmin 3's Release

Not enough. Sadly Pikmin 3 doesn't have any effect in Europe like expected. Europe doesn't really appreciate real games. Mostly cinematic games sell in Europe.

Didn't it only get released on the 26th in Europe? I'm not expecting alot but you've got to give it a little time.

Problem is that Wii U has gotten so far, sequels to Wii games that are so similar, save of course for Pikmin 3.

Wii Party U, Wii Fit U, Wind Waker HD, Super Mario 3D World, DKC:TF, they are all too similar or exactly the same as their prequels and have not much going on to make the Wii U shine, it feels like Nintendo was in a hurry and decided to go with easy and quick to do titles.

Next year might change things, there's more original content coming up, no more rushed sequels. But this year will not be as big as many hope.

Bets with Conegamer:

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

Fullfilled Prophecies

It`s great to see how a game like Pikmin 3 can lift Wii U sales even though it`s a not a big franchise.
Let`s hope that with more and great games, Wii U can improve in Japan and worldwide aswell!

It's a profound impact on sales. Wii U only needs a little more of this and it's in great shape in Japan.

mario 3d world too similar to galaxy? lol. anyway, you're just using a fallacy that every game should be different than it's previous installment.

^This! Changing a game's core gameplay will cause lot's of rage I bet. I certainly wouldn't be too happy if MK8 turned into a fps! D:

I hope sales will stay up, but Pikmin 3 just doesn't have that kind of power.

so it went from doomed to double doomed?

And as we can see it probably will be back to pre-Pikmin 3 performance next week :/

Yes but a 4 week boost is impressive for such a niche series. One game can only boost sales for so long.

True. Here's hoping Wind Waker HD will be a game that actually permanently raises the baseline. Since it will really mark the beginning of "1 1st party per month" we *might* actually see a raise in sales of ~400% - 500% without even factoring in christmas sales by December.

Wouldn't count on it. Zelda isn't very popular in Japan. It's a series that mostly appeals to the West.

It's a shame more 3rd parties aren't trying to take advantage of the Wii U and release some unique content using the gamepad. I'm guessing the bad economy has something to do with it. Catering to the Wii U gamepad, to them, seems like a risk. With shit sales as is, risks are bad. It's a vicious cycle.
