Forums - Gaming - Sony asks Nintendo for one Mario game to help sell the vita

As big of a system seller as he used to be.

Look at the Wii U. It launched with Mario on day one yet it didn't save the system. The 3DS was saved by the price cut, not its Mario games. This article is hyping up "one Mario game" as enough to single handily resurrect Vita.

Besides the fact that it sold over 2m on a userbase with barely 3.5m, the Mario game it got was a 2D Mario.

Contrary to popular belief, 2D Mario is not a big system seller on it's own. It is a big seller, it is everyone's second game. Nobody buys a system solely for 2D Mario. People buy a WiiU for 3D Mario, Zelda, Smash Bros. or Donkey Kong, but they all buy 2D Mario after that. Attach-ratio week-on-week supports this, it's perfectly visable on 3DS's NSMB.

And the 3DS was saved by both Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 .

I don't believe it for 1 second.

ok let me say one thing: i own a vita and one of the last things i want to see is a mario game on it. the vita is not a casual tool that a lot of parents buy their kids to make them shut up. it's a gaming device for let's say 15+ year old people and should be treated like that. by the way it's also no FPS device.

This joke is such a Nintendo fan's wet dream. Mario is not at all as big as he used to be.

Heck I'll bet someone my sig for a month that Tearaway is better reviewed than 2D Mario on 3DS was.

Reviews mean nothing.

This topic (joke as it is) is about getting VIta to sell units.  Mario would seemingly do that regardless if it got a 2/10 or a 10/10 review wise.

Mario always sells in the millions and can be upwards 10+ million.

How many sales do you expect Tearaway to garner?  Even if Tearaway was on a system with an insane install base it wouldn't touch Mario's numbers.

15+ year old people are quite rare these days, it seems.

Yes lol. Mario games sell great. That's why I said better reviews ;)

Dang it... should've cut out your second sentence. I was referring to your first since that was you saying Mario isn't as big as he used to be. Wouldn't that translate into "doesn't sell as well."?

WiiU would be doing way worse without NSMB considering it has an attach rate of more than 50%. NSMB alone cannot carry the whole system, it needs a steady stream of games.

3DS really started to sell when 3DLand and Mario Kart released. Wouldn't have done that well had it just been the price cut.

My post keeps getting quoted and I'm kinda starting to argue beyond my intentions.

I've edited my first post for clarity.

Terrible idea. If this were to happen Vita sales could sink to Wii U levels.

This has to be the comment of the century. Sombody, give this princess a cookie.

Playstation = The Beast from the East

Sony + Nintendo = WIN! PS3 + PSV + PS4 + Wii U + 3DS

The Mario games did help the 3DS, though.

And NSMBU actually did well for the Wii U. It has quite a high attach ratio.

Hopefully they don't get Mario & Luigi: Dream Team.

Not even gonna read the op. Definitely some trolling here.
