Iwata Says People’s Expectations For The Company Keep Getting Higher And Higher


Iwata says that he feels that people’s overall expectations for Nintendo continue to get higher and higher, therefore they are facing more challenges than ever as they try to please both the fans and the investors. However, Iwata feels that this is nothing new for the company as it has never stopped progressing by bringing innovative experiences to consumers.

“I would say that the people’s expectations about what will come next from Nintendo is becoming higher and higher,” he said. “So we are facing more challenges than ever – that’s true.

“But it’s nothing new for Nintendo. Nintendo is a company that has never stopped progressing, and when it comes to the fan-base, of course, we have to sustain that, but we are always trying to expand that.”

i fucking agree with this statement.
people expect a super high quality Zelda game from nintendo that has a steady 60fps framerate at full 1080p rendering and open world mechanics.
but they have no problem playing a buggy ass linear game on PS3/360/PS4/XboxOne/PC.

I have mixed feelings about this. Ninty Fans expect a lot of Nintendo becuse in the past they have time and time again blown us away with amazing games and exciting announcements (looking at the twilight princess reveal). Recently, they have played it relatively safe and fans have been dissapointed. Expectations have gone up but Nintendo's standards has somewhat plateaued.

Fortunately Iwata seems to be doing everything in his power to rectify that.

Yeah, um, everyone has higher expectations from one generation to the next, from one franchise entry to the next, from one new IP to the next. That's kind of the point. Does he think the PS4 and XO don't have to deal with that? That Halo and Uncharted don't have to deal with that? That new smart-phones and tablets and computers don't have to be superior to their predecessors?

Two words: Skyward Sword. Great game, ridiculous expectations.

Please continue current ip's, revive old ip's, and make new ip's at the same time.
