Looking at the launch prices of Xbox 360 Core vs the Wii console. The Xbox Core console was only a $50/£30 more expensive in the USA/UK than the Wii Console. If Nintendo had matched the specs of 360 Core with the Wii and had a price which would be a bit more expensive than the Xbox Core but would match the same level of loss on each unit sold that the 360 Core had. Would Nintendo benefited more in the long run after the initial hit on console hardware losses?

3rd Parties wouldn't have given up on the system so quickly so it would have sold longer rather than dropping off in the last couple of years. The WiiU would be in a lot better position since it would most likely launch along with the Xbone and PS4 with even hardware specs.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

You essentially want to ask: ''if the wii was a hd console, would nintendo be ...''

Yes, they clearly underestimated HD development and the difficulties they're having now Sony and Microsoft had back in 06-07.

I kinda doubt it, I think 360 was sold at a loss for 2-3 years and thats something Nintendo wouldnt risked if Wii wasnt selling well. Also a big advantage for Wii was price, it was $250 vs 360-$400, PS3-$600. I know those consoles had cheaper skus but they were considered gimped versions that didnt selk well, kinda like the Wii U Basic.

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

Wii w/360 level hardware tops the PS2's 150 million sold IMO.

It would've had a lot better third party support and sold better in the second half of the generation.

It would be better regarded on the internet, but it only sold the way it did because of it's price. If it was comparable to the 360 and had motion controllers, it would easily cost $600 just like the PS3 cost when it released, and would struggle to sell to both "casual" and "hardcore" gamers like Wii U is doing right now. They did the right move with the Wii, the only problem was that they completely abandoned the console after one of their most sucessful years on the market(2010). It would've been still selling well today if Nintendo managed the console in the right way.

I knew plenty of people who'd have paid $300+ for a Wii in 2006 or 2007 when the system was sold out everywhere.

Price wasn't that big of a deal, I remember seeing people load up on Wii's at $250 + Wii Fit at $99 like it was nothing.

The reason the PS3 cost $600 was because they forced Blu-Ray into the system.

In hindsight, probably. Given supply constraints on the Wii anyway, causing people to pay far over the $250 price anyway. If Nintendo had known what people were willing to pay for the Wii, they probably would have put more under the hood.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Depend if they still went with motion control as their main selling point the good core third party games using motion control are pretty rare even with Kinect I think they would have sold less consoles maybe 80mill because of the increase in price and their profit margin on games would have been a lot lower. imagine how much money they made from each wii x games with their oversimplify graphics, the wii was the right choice but the wii U isn't so far

why do you guys think 3rd party support would've been better? the GameCube was a shit ton more powerful than the PS2, but did it have 3rd party support? no
