....I was afraid of this... They try to impress the investor by introducting a console with the best top notch off the shelves parts, but all of that come with a peice. I sort of seen this coming back in February.

First the Wii U now PS4..... this is going to be an interesting gen. Let's not talk doom and gloom yet, let's wait for real world proformance first, when all three systems are out.

...

Wat?

Yeah....I am hoping it was sarcasm but.....that doesn't seem to be the case....lol

TheBlackNaruto and Prev: Sony are pumping alot of money in the PS4 even though the Vita and Playstation division was losing money. The PS4 could be a major success. (Sorry I'm tired atm, if its still hard to understand, I apologize)

Here a little quote I want for those to keep memorize in your head for this coming next gen.

No big deal.

And yes they are putting a lot of money into the PS4 and that is the reason that they lost money. Which is normal for any company when releasing a new system. So they will be okay in that aspect.

Did you expect them to make a profit with the PS4 just around the corner?  I can't imagine how high the cost was to move to next gen for them.

The PS4 was the reason they lost money dude. This happens with every company before a console release.

I don't understand what that last part has to do with... anything

I think he is trying to put into perspective how much 1.6 Million a day is.

Or maybe I'm giving him too much credit.

DucksUnlimited: I know, Sony's Playstation division been losing money for the past couple of years. I have feeling if end up not selling well by next year, this could break.

I'm actually impressed that they have restricted losses in the year they are launching a product, but I guess more is to come, because they are still going to have manufacturing costs? I guess they might have already paid for parts, but would expect some further losses in the next quarter?

That's not accurate. Sony's gaming division has turned a profit every year since 2010.

So, looking at the latest financials for Q1 shows that Sony's gaming division lost over $1.6mil a day each day for the full quarter.....that is truly staggering!

What would you could do with $1.6 million!

That's fine because there are PS4 R&D lol.

"Operating loss increased 11.2 billion yen year-on-year to 14.8 billion yen (149 million U.S. dollars). This significant increase in loss was primarily due to an increase in research and development expenses related to the upcoming introduction of the PS4, and a benefit recorded in the same quarter of the previous fiscal year due to the reversal of a Blu-ray Disc patent royalty accrual."

That loss is even good news because they are lower than PS3 one.

And I don't know if you looked before but MS posted $263 million loss in Game Division due Xbone R&D too.

MS has a Game Division?
