Forums - Nintendo - Will 3DS have more 5 Million Sellers Than DS? (3DS~4 vs DS~18)

How Many 3DS Titles Will Be 5 Million Sellers?

Less than 10 19 9.36%

10-12 50 24.63%

13-15 51 25.12%

16-18 20 9.85%

19-20 15 7.39%

21+ O.o 47 23.15%

Total:202

Without the information about digital sales, it´s very hard to tell... I´d bet that the 3Ds will have more 5-million sellers than the Ds... specially due to digital sales. It´s possible that cheap games like Gunman Clyde reach that number, but as we never know the digital sales numbers... it´s a shot in the dark to make any prediction

I am just looking at numbers provided by the Computer Entertainment Supplier’s Association. DS piracy is nowhere the level that it was on the PSP.

And Fire Emblem seems to be outsold the GBA one by the slightest of margins, AC:NL is far from the sales of the DS one. And SM3DL doesn't even begin to the Mario games on DS.

You really don't seem to put too much effort into researching for your posts. Anyway...

Just because CESA states that the DS hasn't been pirated as much as the PSP, which was pirated a lot, doesn't mean Pokemon wasn't pirated a lot. Did they state specific games? It doesn't seem so. If they did, please tell me.

Fire Emblem was just released this year and still hasn't had a holiday. AC:NL was released this year in NA and Europe, so it still hasn't had a holiday, nor has it had a long time to sell in NA/Europe. SM3DL is an evergreen title meaning it'll keep selling, especially when the holiday hits.

How could you miss these points?

I see that you put in a lot of research in your post. Great numbers and facts in there. And yes, they do state specific games and their numbers. Dissidia, the most pirated PSP game had over 5M downloads. The most pirated DS game (DQIX) had 1.5M. Goes on to show the difference.

Can we just ignore hikken already? He has proven time and time again, and not only in this thread, that he will come up with any retarded argument to downplay Nintendo.

your wrong again and again lol, fire emblem on 3ds is the best selling in the franchise and will continue to rise. ACNL is tracking better than the one on DS so far, SM3DL is now over 8.5mil while mario 64 DS is at 10mil, that means SM3DL>>>Mario 64DS in sales

also dont forget to mention luigi's mansion that its currently over 2.65mil in just 4months with the original being at 3.70 lifetime. this means it will beat it lifetime and continue to be selling over 4mil

Pokemon x/y for the 10th time is going to sell alot, also MH4 will do much more than your low prediction, i can name more but it wont mean a thing

Dude, read my post again. I never said that FE:A wasn't the best selling of the bunch. And I don't know what is tracking over what but as of right now AC:NL has half the DS version's sales. It sold 75k in the week of the 20th of July according to vgchartz and it's been decreasing by the week. What are the odds of it that much for another 1.5 year?

And I like how you compare SM3DL sales to a port of an N64 game. Why not compare it to the sales of the other Mario platformers on the DS?

We will see how much Pokemon X/Y will sell but as of right now it is tracking 10% behind B/W preorder numbers.

MH4 will sell 3.5M in Japan.

In any case, comparing DS to 3DS numbers, the only franchise's sales that's gone up is FE:A.

Where do you think I'm supposed to get future numbers from? I don't want to pull them out of nowhere.

The least I can tell you is that you are just wrong about the games we were talking about. You obviously don't know much about how Nintendo games perform as noted from your previous posts in some of Tbone's prediction threads, and that's fine. Some people just don't know certain sales trends for certain companies. I don't know much about how MS' games (minus Halo) perform, so I don't really comment much on it.

Tough call, it's still pretty early. At first glance I'd say no; the 3DS won't be as big as the DS in general, so I wouldn't guess that it would have as many X-million-sellers. But upon further inspection it certainly seems possible.

I would take Ocarina of Time 3D out of the OP. Once Zelda games hit their second birthday they're pretty much finished selling significant numbers -- no way it will sell 30-40% of its total sales after that two-year point, which passed over a month ago.

I'm sure Smash Bros will make it. Even the first game in the series on the relatively small install base of the N64 comfortably managed over 5 million sales; since then the series has grown tremendously in popularity. Japan will go nuts for a portable version of the game, so I expect the 3DS version to be the best-selling Smash Bros yet in Japan, exceeding the 2.5 million sales of Brawl.

Zelda has a fair shot. Phantom Hourglass came within spitting distance of 5 mil, and A Link to the Past was one of the best-selling titles in the series in Japan. I suppose Link Between Worlds could hit 1 million in Japan, a little over 2 million in America, a little under 2 million in Europe. It would be close.

Animal Crossing will make it soon, Luigi's Mansion will probably make it next year. Apart from that, we'll just have to wait and see.

the only 3d mario platformer on ds is super mario 64 ds! so wat are you talking about O.o? im glad you raised your MH4 prediction from 2mil to 3.5mil, at least thats reasonable, anyway i still think it'll sell ovr 4mil.

Why only does DS count? your saying sales keep declining so why cant i compare to other consoles/handhelds? anyway pre orders might be behind but that wont matter, there was more pre orders cuz there was over 45mil DS users while now 3ds doesnt have 10mil yet in US. thats 1 thing to note.

Hey Hicken, do you like apples?

Well, I got some numbers. How do you like THEM apples?

"Nintendo franchises are selling less this gen." Sure they are. This is without factoring in digital sales, which were nonexistent last gen and are considerable now.

^Them numbers don't lie! Hopefully the games keep up the pace!

All three of these statements are false. As I have just shown, Fire Emblem: Awakening is, as of right now, the best-selling Fire Emblem title ever released. It may be slightly overtracked, but that would only be counter-balanced by digital sales. AC:NL is tracking ahead of the DS iteration in every region -- did you expect it to immediately surpass its predecessors sales day one? Don't be outrageous. SM3DL is tracking well ahead of all other 3D Mario games on record, including both Galaxy games and, at least in Japan (data for other regions is not available), Super Mario 64 for N64, the best-selling 3D Mario game to date. To compare 3D Land's sales to 2D Mario games like NSMB would be fruitless and disingenuous.
