Forums - Nintendo - Super Mario RPG Developer not Interested in Sequel

Quick, someone contact him and suggest that he starts making a "Legend of Zelda RPG", where you get to play as Link, Zelda, and a number of other characters, as a full-fledged turn-based RPG.

First RPG I've ever played, and still my favorite SNES game. Established the foundation for two excelllent series to come, with a fair bit of humor and turn-based battles meant to engage the player to a greater degree. Also platforming, but that's probably the worst part of the game. Doesn't quite play well with the isometric perspective.

the M&L series and the first two Paper Mario´s are far superior, the rendered graphics haven´t aged as well as pixel art
..still a good game though...

But you're comparing a snes game to a n64 game.  I think the graphics have aged surprisingly well, I just played it about a week ago, and while it could use some touchups, its amazing for a snes game.  I think it would be amazing to update it with Super Mario Galaxy graphics.

I point you to Yoshi's Island for "amazing for a SNES game".

Its got a lovely artstyle, but are you insinuating there can only be one game that statisfies "amazing for a SNES game"?

SMRPG isn't even close to as good looking as Yoshi's Island in art style terms.

I agree, but its not just about art style, Okami is in my opinion, the coolest game in art style terms.  Although I haven't played, screenshots look amazing.

I see no reason that they can't make a sequel with a different style.  There aren't many 3D games in that style on the SNES.   Why do you have a problem with my opinion?

Sequel with a different style => Paper Mario

What was it aout SMRPG you feel wasn't retained in Paper Mario? The FF battle style? The characters?

Forget that developer. How about we have Hironobu Sakaguchi, Nobou Uematsu, and maybe Shigesato Itoi and/or Shigeru Miyamoto to make a proper sequel.

I think they should honestly chill with the Mario RPG series for a while. They've made a lot of them for the last little while.

How about Paper Zelda? Or an Earthbound spin-off? Or heck maybe even something like a Star Fox RPG. I wouldn't mind something that uses a different Nintendo property instead.

They haven't made a Super Mario RPG game in like 17 years.

They have made a lot of Mario RPGs lately, but not this one.

How about a Final Fantasy x Super Mario. Both franchises have so many characters they could make a game of epic proportions.

Obviously that would be a special case. I'd do Nintendo x Final Fantasy, I think it would be one of the biggest franchise's in the game industry if done properly.

I can already imagine a fighting scene between Link,Cloud,Ganondorf, and Sephiroth. Epic!
