I thought you would have said NSMB.

If NSMB was in the OP then I might've. But who knows, I'm too edgy to be predicted upon.

If Nintendo revisited the concept of Sunshine again I think they could make a great game. But Sunshine the way it exists on the Gamecube just has too many flaws. The camera is borderline horrendous and the game is literally a chore to play at times. It does have its great moments, but the whole intro where Mario is on trial is done beyond generic and the voices for the Fludd, Bowser & Bowser Jr made me want to throw up.

Galaxy, on the other hand, is outstanding. The hub area in the first one is a bit lame but once you get into the levels it's pure bliss.

Galaxy was the better game and it had better music but I'd take Sunshine any day because you got to play it with a regular controller. I can't tell you how aggravating it was playing with motion controls and waggle. I unnecessarily died SO many times on the hamster ball and water races it's not even funny. Had I been using a regular controller, almost every death wouldn't have happened.

Some would say it was because there was not a lot of options. I am impressed by how well some games did though. It is just sad that so many said it was a great console, yet no one did anything about it. It is one of those things that make you wonder, "What did Nintendo do so wrong?" Then you see the Wii U and live through it first hand and you go ...oh! I see. It is possible for this type of thing to happen. Not because the system is that bad or because the games are bad, just because of some pour ..poor...decisions on Nintendo's part.

Sales dont determine a great console or game...

I agree. See Dreamcast and N64 for example.

But sales do determine how many great games a great console will have. The Wii got way more than it would have gotten just because 100's ( 1,000's?) of devs wanted to get games on the system to play the "Lottery" and hopefully have one of the 100 million owners buy their games. Luckily, some of those games were good and it got a nice library of decent games in the end. People will still be digging through all the hidden treasures for years to come. So many games that were lost in the mix of all the shovelware.

Although, Nintendo did put some effort into the GC. Just was still too little too late. The N64 years had Nintendo making too many bad choices, and I think that hurt the GC some as well. People were mad that they did not get some third parties, third parties were mad at them, and the lack of games at times was not good. I was going to buy a GC either way, but some may have had a bad taste in their mouths. Which they did, so they bought a PS2. The rest is history. As is Mario Sunshine. It loses because of all of this. If it would have been on the Wii, it would have been different. History is written by the winners. Mario Galaxy is that winner. Huge review scores and huge sales. Only reason NSMB sold 3 times better is because of the Casual rush.

People didn't buy PS2's because they were disgusted with the N64. The N64 got killed sales wise. The bought PS2s because PS1 was all the rage and they were promised more of the same experience, only BETTER.

You know, Sunshine introduced Scott Burns as Bowser, who, in my opinion, has come up with some of Bowsers most iconic growls and stuff. In the end, he is my favorite voice actor for Bowser and I feel kind of sad that he isn't really used anymore. He made Paper Mario 2's Bowser so fun to me. Although I do agree that the direction the voice director wanted him to go in Sunshine was pretty... let's say, questionable.

On topic though: While I liked Sunshine for what it is (and while I would love Nintendo to revisit the concept of the game some time), I think I have to go with Galaxy. Those two games were just so much fun and I put way more time into them than Sunshine, so I can't really favour Sunshine at this point.

Yeah, it's definitely the direction they went for with the dialogue and such that I was criticizing more than the voice actors' ability.  That whole speech that Bowser Jr delivers after the rollercoaster battle about mama Peach or whatever... I was like, WTF!?  I think Nintendo has switched from magic mushrooms to crack, lol.

I hate how everyone says Sunshine was so great, and every Gamecube game ever made was so phenomenal. yet, no one bought the system hardly. Put your money where your mouth is people! Do you know that I have to pay like 30 dollars just to buy a used copy of most worthwhile GC games because of all of you?

What about me? I bought two, but had to pawn them for money to buy adult things.

Galaxy. High Critic Scores, Mario done right even though we would never had asked for it like that.

Sunshine was the second official game, but he had been done in 3D with Mario Party and the Mario sports games and Mario Kart. They got pretty much everything right with the first 3D mario, so it was not like they had to recreate the wheel or anything. Plus they perfected 3D with various other games since the Mario 64. NO, Mario Sunshine was more like Mario bros 2. Weird and goofy, that turned out to be pretty fun, just not great. Not Mario 3.

We DO put our money where our mouths are.  The problem is that the majority of the market is made of people who don't really know how to appreciate games and won't buy a system because it looks like a purple lunch box.  They're not the types to chime in on gaming sites, but they're where most of the money is.

1. Super Mario Galaxy 2 (9.5/10)
2. Super Mario Galaxy (9.3/10)
3. Super Mario Sunshine (8.8/10)
4. Super Mario 64 (6.5/10)
5. Super Mario 3D World (5.4/10)

I'm all about Sunshine. I need a complete package, and while Galaxy features unique and refined gameplay, Sunshine had a world to explore and characters to see and just had a lot more creative flair. It was more of a complete game to me, and a deep game will always beat a game that you just sit down and plow through, front to back. I love to replay Sunshine, but I don't really feel compelled to replay Galaxy after getting all the stars.

Sunshine.

It had all the right things to make me cave in and buy a Mario game.
