Figuring how long a console generation has been is *NOT* an exact measure. The launch date of a next gen console doesn't mean anything if, like the Wii U and the Vita, it came too early and the system's sales suffered as a result. Gen 7 hasn't been the longest generation because it was the longest from console launch to launch, but because the next gen hardware faceplanted out of the gate. That's only possible if the market still wasn't ready for another generation.

Add about a year to the console launch dates for gen 8 and you've got a better figure.
