Forums - Politics - Worst job interview EVER.

A few days ago I saw an ad online for a human resources position at Business Process Outsourcing in Tijuana, México. They were offering about twice the common salary for that same position, so I sent my resume just as I would buy a lottery ticket. The ad said that a car was needed for the position to move from one company to another and that a visa to be able to cross from México to the US was "a plus". A few days ago I received an email asking me to go to an interview that same day so I decided to go. I bought new shoes, I got a haircut and I sacrificed my manly moustache and beard, I got dressed with my "serious" clothes.

So I went to the interview at a local Starbucks (I know, I know!) and I recognized some familiar people who were also excited to apply for one of the two job positions available, one of them was a comrade from university. A short time later the interviewer arrived. After a very fast paced and overall awkward interview he told me that he was interested in hiring me and that he would contact me for a second interview. Then he asked me to give him a ride because he didn't had a problem with his car. I told him that I couldn't because I didn't bring it and he became mad. He gave me further instructions and we went our separate ways.

When I came back home and checked for the ad online, I saw that the company had been deleted from the site and I suspected that he wanted to steal my car or kidnap me, so I freaked out.

Today he contacted me again to make me another interview at the same Starbucks at the same time as the day before. but I didn't reply and instead I called that Starbucks location to notify them about the incident and so they could warn other applicants if they went to the "interview". I also notified Gmail and asked them to delete the account because it had my personal information and other aplicant's too.

My sister told me that I wasn't trying to get robbed. "They" were actually going to hire me, I was being lured to have a job that involved to cross to the US every now and then while they stuck my car with tons (like literally tons) of drugs without me noticing. Now I feel super mad... and stupid.

Here's some more on the "Blind Mule" phenomenon which appears to be pretty popular right now in the border areas in México.

Here's a link to another post I wrote recently explaining why I'm trying to get away from this shithole and asking for gamers opinion on how to do it and where to go:

I remember how people talked about how people from Cuba were unable to leave the island: now México is my very own Cuba.

Yep, you gotta be careful (especially in Mexico) about fake jobs that could lead to something else. Glad you didn't get robbed or worse.  Always be careful of people you don't know.

Check out this story about a man that had a bunch of people show up in construction outfits outside a bank (he wore same outfit while robbing bank) for a job posted on Craigslist. He later got away in an inner tube.  It is a petty amazing story.

"It appears to have unfolded this way, according to a Seattle-based NBC affiliate: around 11:00 a.m. PDT on Tuesday, the robber, wearing a yellow vest, safety goggles, a blue shirt, and a respirator mask went over to a guard who was overseeing the unloading of cash to the bank from the truck. He sprayed the guard with pepper spray, grabbed his bag of money, and fled the scene.

But here's the hilarious twist. The robber had previously put out a Craigslist ad for road maintenance workers, promising wages of $28.50 per hour. Recruits were asked to wait near the Bank of America right around the time of the robbery--wearing yellow vests, safety goggles, a respirator mask, and preferably a blue shirt. At least a dozen of them showed up after responding to the Craigslist ad.

"I came across the ad that was for a prevailing wage job for $28.50 an hour," one of the unwitting decoys, named Mike, said to the NBC station. As it turns out, they were simply placed there to confuse cops who were looking for a guy wearing a virtually identical outfit.

Authorities eventually found the getaway inner tube (a getaway inner tube!) and suspect that accomplices may have picked up the robber in a boat. According to the NBC affiliate, police hope to track him down by figuring out who posted the Craigslist ad in the first place."

I think you made the right decision. You should have become skeptical once you found out the interview was at Starbucks.

I've had a legit interview take place at a Starbucks once.  However, one should become very skeptical when the person wants a ride and gets angry when finding out you didn't bring a car.  I'd tell him to fuck off and I don't want your "job" with that kind of attitude.  However, saying that to some one in Mexico might get you shot...  Perhaps, a more polite response like calling out their lack of professionalism or weird situation they are trying to put you into.  I've never heard of someone giving an interview then demanding a ride.  Obviously, he was looking to take the car or worse.

At least you used your brain and detected something fishy about the whole thing.

I only knew him by sight before that but I did warn him on facebook, he hasn't replied yet though. Yeah, connectivity is usually pretty limited in prison : P.

You should have taken it. Then pulled the drugs out and wrecked your car. Into flames. Then you could slowly sell the drugs, money, or human body parts that they hid in your motor vehicle.

Hahahah, best comment I've received! Well, that would have got me killed undoubtedly -_-
