Played this one a long time ago, pretty good game but the open-world doesn't really match up to more recent games.

Also, I hate to be that guy, but MS should really start adding some newer titles to this service. PS Plus just got Hitman Absolution, a game from 2012. Crackdown is from 2007. Rant over, enjoy the game guys.

They're completely different things tho, once you add crackdown to your download list you own the title forever, I can disconnect my 360 from the net and always have that game on the system, Once your psn+ account expires so does you having Hitman. I know that obviously if you always have both services then Psn does offer newer games, but the games with gold are your licences forever.

I don't get what you mean by this? I don't have to be online on my PSN to play my PS Plus games. As long as I'm subscribed I can play them, no internet connection required.

not quite, if you have a game from Psn+ press Triangle on the menu and check the information tab on it, see that Expiry date? once that passes you'll need to have connected to the net or the game will stop working. Of course to resubscribe you will need to connect to the net anyways but I'm saying that if you keep your ps3 offline once that date passes the games can't be opened.

It took PS+ years to start getting really good games. Games with Gold got really good games from the start, but not the more "modern" releases like PS+ gets. But again, it took years for PS+ to get there. No way GwG would match it day one. Plus there is a big difference between the games you get on each service, what with the PS+ games being rentals and the GwG games being actual free games you keep.

Yup it took PS Plus almost exactly 2 years to introduce the "Instant game collection". I wouldn't say GWG offers "free" games since you need to be a gold member to pay. Yes you get to keep them, but these games Microsoft is giving out are basically games that you could probably get nowadays for less than a dollar (used). It's still nice though, free games is just an added bonus to Live subscribes, even if the games are old, they're still giving out pretty decent games (according to their metacritic).

Although some countries are getting Shadowrun instead of Crackdown. I feel bad for them =P

While this could be true of some titles, you couldn't possibly find a copy of Defense grid used, as an XBL title it's always gonna cost the 800msp or around 9euros. As for needing to pay for gold to get them somehow negating them being free, all the time we happily (enough) paid for gold for the services like youtube, online gaming and deals of the week, now we get full games to keep forever for no extra cost, they are 100% a free bonus ontop of what Gold already gave for the cost.

Well obviously because that would mean your PS Plus subscription has ended. See the way a service works is once you stop paying for it, you don't get the benefits of that service (mind blown I know). What I am saying is that whilst you are a PS Plus member, you don't have to be connected to the internet to actually play the game you have downloaded as part of the Instant Game Collection.

Games with Gold might let you keep the games, however the games they offer aren't very recent and could probably be found fairly cheap online. It doesn't matter though cause people subscribe to Xbox Live for the online/multiplayer benefits, not the free games.

I know, I said that in the comment.

Ah good you understand then the original comment about having the games forever regardless of being offline, rather than having to keep paying/connecting to psn to keep owning/renting the games, it's really not that difficult.

I don't think MS is just giving away random games. Most of the games seem to relate to games coming to the X1.

Fable 3- Fable Anniversary releasing/potential Fable 4 announcement@ Gamescom
AC2- AC: Black Flag
Crackdown- Crackdown 3 most likely announcement@ Gamescom
DeadRising 2/Case Zero- Dead Rising 3 for X1

Only one without a connection is Defense Grid.

Perhaps they're just wishing they had a defense grid to protect the X1 from all the internet hate? :D

Great points tho, drum up interest in upcoming possible games, could be a great move + you got happy fans who use gold, always good.

Would explain the damage control from MS since E3 lol. The hate seems to have slown down at least.

Never beaten Crackdown/DR2 so I'm happy with these two choices. Wouldn't be suprised to see Forza 3 or Forza 4 (hopefully 4) as one of the free games.

I don't think the hate has really died down I think it's more the people with legit concerns about their policys stopped wanting to be called playstation fanboys for mentioning being worried about it, I know I sure as hell did..... Saying that since E3 I did buy a Ps3 :D if you're going to be called a fanboy of it you might as well get to enjoy it right?

It will never go away completely. There will always be critics, but at least MS has fixed the majority of the issues gamers had with the system. No need to pick up a Ps3 because a future roommate has one so I can play it whenever, he will most likely get a Ps4 aswell :D Of choice other roommates will get X1.

The part about keeping them is exactly why you get free games. It's a free incentive no strings attached. My copy of BF3 that I just downloaded off PSN isn't a free game. Once my subscription runs out the game becomes unplayable. There is the difference.

And I have never seen any of these games used for less than one dollar, not that price would matter at all anyway.

You live in the nuclear family of gaming, A ps4, X1 and 2.4 nintendo 3ds's no doubt? :D

I don't really have room mates, just my wife and she has her own 360 but we both had a few games on the ps3 which we had been interested in so we got it together. Considering what we got it for it wasn't really a big issue, was one of the last PS3 slims our local game shop was selling off to just have Super Slims so it cost around 150euros or so.

Three 360's, two Ps3's, kinect, move, two psp's, ds, 3ds(I think), ps2, N64, and Gamecube. When I move in that will be one more 360 xD

I've always considered getting a Ps3, but never really had the time and money for it. This just makes it easier to play the games I've wanted without actually spending the money. Gaming is an expensive hobby, especially for a broke college student like myself. So if you and someone else can split buying stuff it really makes things easier for everyone.
