Forums - Gaming - Wii U Shipped 160k Units Worldwide Between April and June 2013

Btw the 3DS fall is explainable. I think it's due to the 3DS XL release last year. They probably had to ship in July for the August release. I say this because 3DS sales for the quarter are most definitely up (at least in the West). I'm not too worried about it anyways, next 3 quarters should show where the 3DS really is.

Also Wii U still has a chance this holiday season. It really depends how the games sell but I think it will at least have a better first year than the PSV.

3DS sales really aren't up THAT much in the West. They got a nice bump in June from the Animal Crossing bundle, but that's not a monster bump. Prior to June most months were either flat and below 2012 for the 3DS here. Europe is up, but Japan is down a little this year so far.

Don't even understand the first part of that. Nintendo will support it regardless of sales just like Gamecube, they have a good slate of games coming.

Gamecube sales >>>> Wii U

It doesn't matter, as long as Nintendo decide to manufacture the console they'll support it with software.

For April-June it's up in the West. Maybe not significant but the data says it's down hence my argument.

For now, perhaps. In the long term? I doubt it.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Gamecube sales (without Europe) > Wii U sales

I'm just kidding .

Unlikely, but a possibility imo. Really depends on the next 18 months. Wouldn't surprise me to se this system doing 6 mill units a year, in fact I struggle to see it ever doing even close to 10m, they just don't have that level of audience to appeal to. Casuals don't want to know and never will, neither will core gamers.

True, but I would argue the next 9 months are the crucial point,  in 18 months it'll be too late. We should be seeing loads of multi million sellers in the next 9 months, which should create a niche for the system which will give it success. If it can't manage that before Smash Bros. falls, then I don't see that helping all that much because the other systems will be dominant, and it'll be resigned to obscurity like the GameCube.

I say 18 because they need to knock it out of the park this holiday and retain the momentumn. But it's only going to get harder, PS4 and Xbox One launching, and PS360 price cuts.

Kinda funny Nintendo still post profit with this horrible shipped numbers.

I'd say the GameCube was a "successful niche", in the sense that it was certainly a niche product and was profitable in the long run.
