Forums - Gaming - Will new consoles be outshined by price cuts, Grand Theft Auto V, and Pokemon and Y in christmas time?

I kind of agree, for me the most exciting games being released in the final few months of the year are Total War: Rome II and Grand Theft Auto V.

However, they are both coming out in September, so I should in theory be done with them 2 months later

As for the price cuts, I don't think that dirt cheap consoles are really competing with the new consoles, everyone who would be buying a next gen console already owns a current gen console. It is probably better to get the price cut out of the way this year, rather than wait until next year when you are looking for a wider audience

The one problem is that for people on the fence, they can play the majority of both launch line-ups on their current gen platforms, though of course we don't know how well they will actually run

Price cuts are rumored for the ps3 and 360. and There are some big releases, GTA V is go to be massive in America and Europe, pokemon x and y is going to be massive everywhere. Could these big releases right before the new generation hurt their presence? The new consoles dont really have the "it" factor right now yet, they seem like good systems but all of their big releases can be found either on the 360 or ps3, and no backwards compatibility hurts them big time. What do you guys think?

Not to start a flame war, but the 360 is truly on its last leg. Just with the line up for the next 9 months I can't really see Microsoft pushing it too far past 2014. Sony on the other hand still have many first party titles in the pipe line and this could negatively affect their new console. This remains to be seen but a price drop on both consoles are really going to shake things up.

How can one or two games overshadow a major hardware launch like PS4 and X1? GTAV releases two months before and Pokemon X/Y will hardly ruin you at 40€...

The new consoles will be fine : many people will want the ultimate experience for Battlefield 4, Watchdogs, ACIV and many others won't wait to pick major next-gen exclusives like Killzone ShadowFall, Forza M5 or Thief 4.

It they want the ultimate experience for half the games you listed they may as well get a top end PC.

Then show me the 399€ PC that can run BF4 at maximum level

I don't have to.

you said ultimate experience. Ultimate has no money boundaries.

No, next gen should be here already.

After I play TloU,Gow Ascencion and Tomb Raider this gen is over for me. I think most people want next-gen.

I'm hyped for both. Knack, KZ, BF4 (PS4 version), AC4 (PS4 and maybe), Watch Dogs (PS4), Ratchet Nexus (so excited to get back to a good Ratchet), Beyond 2 Souls, Puppeteer, GTA5, KH HD, plus all my free PS+ games including Driveclub and an indie at least (they said one a month so depending on if it comes in October or November we'll get 1 or 2 this Fall) will have me plenty busy and probably building up a decent backlog from September through January.

I would never even consider BF4 on current consoles.  I mean seriously why go with 24 player 30fps MP when you can have crisper looking 64 player matches with 60fps plus all the new social features (in my case the PS4 ones) and better networking of next gen consoles?  I know there are still a lot of preorders for it but I simply would never want that version.

The new consoles will be sold out at launch. What more could they do or hope for?

Is that something special? Because it seems like nearly all console launches are met with limited or sold out stock. That's just the it seems to be now.

Although, I'm not saying they won't. Because they most likely will.

GTA5 yes, price cuts no.

Does it have to be special? Fact is like kowen said they'll be sold out so it doesn't matter.

PS360 even with cuts will still be winding down going into next year, and WiiU isn't going to be a threat.

Yeah, with nothing in the launch exclusives looking like anything close to GTAV or Nintendo's games, I can see the PS4 and X1 losing steam soon after launch. They will both sell out at launch though, that is almost guaranteed.
