Forums - Sales - Nintendo's Wii passes 100m units!

Congrats Wii! 100 million is quite a mark. Fruit Punch and Cupcakes for everyone!

And celebrate quick, because the Xbox 360 is about to pass them in North America and there will be more celebrating on that end too.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Top 50 'most fun' game list coming soon!

Congratulations to Nintendo for their first home console to reach the 100 million club! Quite the accomplishment!

Considering all the high hopes everyone had of it eventually passing PS2 during the early years, this is kind of sad. Still, congrats! It still has a shot of passing PS1, I guess.

atleast the DS still has a shot at doing that, although i heard it's gonna get discontinued next year which is really sad. you had a fantastic 10 years DS!

Er DS was already discontinued?

really? you sure?

Its weird that Nintendo's weakest home console (in terms of quality games) IMO is its highest selling ever. Dont get me wrong it has some great games here and there but I doubt anyone will ever put this console in their top 3 overall.

Just to think they done this with 2 different consoles in the same generation, DS and Wii both selling 100 million+! Now thats an achievement that i doubt anyone else could achieve or repeat in the near future.

Oh I may be wrong, there was some confusion earlier in the year with them not giving a forecast and it being discontinued in Japan, I swear they confirmed it was WW too though.

might as well discontinue it, considering the 3ds is eating its sales in japan to non existance. in the US, they should wait till next year.

Based on the latest weekly hardware chart, it might as well just be discontinued in Japan. It sold less than 40 over there. Less than 1,000 in Europe. It seems North America is the only major region that still has semi-decent sales of it. I don't think the DS will manage to make up the current gap of 3 million before it's discontinued completely, considering that Nintendo has shifted focus to the 3DS. At the rate that the DS is selling, taking any potential holiday surge into consideration, it would have to be on the market and maintain its current sales for at least another 4 years.

so...i guess DS wont be passing PS2 numbers either?

Will it ever surpass the Playstation 1?

^There's absolutely zero chance of DS passing PS2.

OT: Congrats to Wii. What seemed like an easy target for it a few years ago will now be its last milestone I think. Although it has a slight chance of passing PS1.

I dont think it will pass PS1, Ninty would have to keep it on the market for a year or two and its not like its doing big numbers now. I dont think Ninty will keep it around that long, especially since the successor is already out.
