Xbox 360 friends list won’t carry over to next-gen, cross platform parties “unlikely”

Authored by Matt Hadden

It looks like your Xbox 360 friends list will not carry over to the Xbox One, according to the Xbox Support twitter.

The Xbox Support Twitter was asked if the 1000 friends limit increase would apply to the Xbox One, they replied by saying that it will “remain as it currently stands.”

They were then asked what if someone was to recover their account on their Xbox One and then go over the friends limit that the Xbox 360 had. The answer was that the platforms would remain separate. “Your Xbox One friends list will be your Xbox One friends list. Your Xbox 360 friends list will be your Xbox 360 friends list.”

Major Nelson has also confirmed that cross platform party chat won’t be available to users.

We have reached out to Microsoft for clarification on this and will update you if we get a response.

The PS5 Exists.

well this is rather stupid. i understand MS wanting to have their system closed off, but really this just doesnt make much sense

this makes sense only if you can import your contact, and then can manage your friends separately on each console console.

ps. nothing in the twitter conversation suppose that you'll not be able to import your friend list or that they won't carry over.

Different systems, different buddy lists.

They want you to upgrade. Also I don't buy that friends won't carry over. Friends are on your account, which is on Xbox Live.com too.

they should really do that. this is one of the most important things, to carry people from 360 to xb1.

just imagine people have a 360 and see more and more people in their friends list who have an xbox one. they will think "god damn i believe i have to buy that console as well anytime soon"

or when 5 people are in a party and one or two have an xbox one. they will obviously talk from time to time in this party chat about the games and the xb1 players will tell the 360 players to switch because it's awesome.

not to talk about those who want to buy an xbox one and are half the day in a party chat with their friends. if they can't be in the party with the same people when they buy the xbox one they will think twice about their purchase. party chat is for some people more important as the games on the console, seriously!

I was thinking the same thing. This is all rather silly. Maybe they will change this after awhile once people start to complain.

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

Wasn't Xbox support proved to be in accurate?

well thats stupid.
So you are basically cut off from you friends who aren't getting an xb1 untill late 2015 or something...
I can understand that there won't be cross gen chat. But this? I hope it won't be true.

Vita can use the same friends list as PS3. I see no reason why Xbox One can't use the same list as the Xbox 360.
