And who can tell us if Japan will still be here in 100 years and not sinken under due to the earthquakes and such?

j/k

It's obvious that he's talking about the attitude of Nintendo, with Iwata answaering to that question that firing employees to increase the profits, something that unfortunately every company does nowadays, was not the answer as it would demoralize the rest of the employees and now they need everybody on-board to get past the current situation.

It's that attitude, thinking in the long term good of your Co. and not in the short term profit, that will make Nintendo last longer than other companies in the sector.

So, maybe not 100 years, but I agree with him that Nintendo will last longer than many belive.

Please excuse my bad English.

one bad handheld gen would be enough to cripple Nintendo, it's their bread and butter console gaming is just the icing on the cake

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

That would, indeed, be an Odd-World.

Heh heh heh... that was a bad pun.

Nintendo's long term survival isn't really tied to one console or even handheld.

Mario and Link will still be around 100 years after their creation in some way, the same way as Batman or Superman would still be around even if the comic book business went extinct or Mickey Mouse is still around even as traditional animation has changed dramatically.

Character IPs on the scale of what Nintendo has created tend to stick around for a long, long, (looooooooong) time.

The age of the "game console" in itself may not have much longer to go, in 20 years I think the "traditional game console" as we know it will be more or less gone.

People on their death bed will outlive Zynga.

100 year projections are meaningless as no company today is set in stone will exist in 2113.

I think a ten year horizon is better. On that I think Nintendo will be around in 2023 and Zynga will not.

he can be happy when humans are still on this planet in 100 years muhahaha

I hope they do, the day nintendo dies will be a very sad day indeed for every real gamer, I may not want a WiiU, but I sure respect their legacy.

My grammar errors are justified by the fact that I am a brazilian living in Brazil. I am also very stupid.

What other entertainment company from the 19th century is still alive today?

And what's with the recent comments from people of companies existing in ___ amount of years?

Well technically, Nintendo is from the 19th century and uh ...

But we're coming up on companies like DC Comics and Disney being a 100 years old.

Yeah it's a hard question to answer. And although DC Comics and Disney are old, Nintendo is still suprisingly older. According to wikipedia, Disney was founded in the 20's and DC was founded in the 30's.

I don't think it will need 100 years to outlive Zynga....
