Forums - Nintendo - I feel that we care for more on the graphics on 3DS titles than we did DS titles. Why is that?

People don't care about "the graphics", so much as "how well they can use the 3D effect". The DS was never selling anything to do with visuals as a selling point. The 3DS's primary selling point is visual. So, people pay closer attention to it. Also, better graphical capabilities = more desire to see those capabilities leveraged properly.

This.  I don't mind a game that has poor graphics every once in awhile, but I buy more powerful consoles for better graphics of the kinds of games I enjoy.  When the 3DS spec wise is twice as powerful as the regular Xbox and the  PSP is slightly less powerful than the PS2, yet nearly every single game pushes graphics less than the quality of most PSP games, then of course I'm going to complain.  I bought a $200 system for better graphics.  Not to play the same graphical quality games I've been playing.  If the developers are going to continue to push shitty graphics then don't be lazy on the 3D.

At first I was never interested in the 3D as it's nothing more than a gimmick to get people to buy the console.  However I did try it on every game I owned.  It wasn't until I played Lords of Shadow Mirror of Fate and how much effort they put into the 3D effect that I was literally amazed and I want to play more games with the 3D effect that's as good as that one.  So far I'm only a few hours in SMT4 and the 3D is almost as impressive here as it is on Lords of Shadows.

Around the Network

DS's innovation (or special feature) was really about the stylus functionality and that was what gamers focused on. 3DS's new leap was its graphics (and 3D which is related). That's why the focus has been more on that as the controls and even the look of the console has been similar.

Actually, the 3DS is less powerful than the original Xbox. Power-wise, it's maybe a little more powerful than PS2, but certainly less powerful than the GC. PSP is around Dreamcast level. About most 3DS games looking on par with PSP games, I disagree but I understand what you say. I have both consoles and the only PSP game that is comparable to a 3DS one is IMO Ghost of Sparta. Most PSP games have very low-poly characters and low-res textures, which is rare to find in 3DS games, but, of course, there are exceptions(Ridge Racer 3D)...

Maybe because now we actually have good graphics..?

I've had my 3ds for a couple days now, got it with MK7 and Mario 3D Land and they both look good, especially 3d Land it really looks great.

I'm impressed by this little machine :)
