I never played System Shock 2 but based on the adoration I have for its spiritual successor I'm sure I'd like it.

Based on the games in the poll and all of the others I played that year, Soul Calibur.

Suikoden II. Incredible game. Still one of the best games I've ever played and easily one of the best RPGs ever made. It had some fantastic characters and the story was heart-rending. It also had one of the best villains of forever in Luca Blight. The twists were just excruciating. It's hard to beat all that combined with 108 companions and six characters in a party. I keep my copy with pride and love.

Soulcalibur is my runner-run. The first fighting game that I really, really liked. Taki, I still heart you.

Crash Team Racing... best racer ever, simple as that

Resident Evil 3 easily!

Followed by Sonic Adventure and Final Fantasy VIII.

Wonderful year, and very hard to pick just one...

Planescape Torment, AoE II, System Shock 2, Alpha Centauri, HoMM3, Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver, Rayman 2, Homeworld, C&C: Tiberian Sun, Unreal Torunament and little known gem Outcast are all near the top, and of course, mod that can't be overlooked, Counter Strike.

Still, I'd have to go with split vote between Planescape: Torment, that masterpiece of RPG design, and David Cage's first game, Omicron: Nomad Soul which was so ahead of its time.

Heroes of Might and Magic 3. One of the best games ever released. Still can't believe how awesome it was.

I'm a fighter, and SC1 on the DC was a fine game. I'm going with that.
