Forums - General - Is thw Wii seriously hard to come by???

In other countries you can preorder still and get one with the next shipment or so... In USA you cant (as far as I know) so you have to get to the stores before they open or get lucky, still, even several months after launch.

I live in the greatest town for finding Wiis. I have personally seen 4 complete stocks of Wiis. First time, about 2 weeks after launch, I picked up my Wii. Since then I've seen it in stock 3 different times, and it actually still is currently in stock today, with more shipments on the day. Guess it's a great idea to live in a retirement community. :)

Tell you the truth... the wii fun to play with for the first couple weeks. I loved playing zelda and enjoyed the thrill and excitment it gave. However, since beating zelda I haven't really used my wii for much playing. I did not stop playing because the wii disappointed me, or that I got bored of the wii. Rather I stopped playing because I am waiting for other titles for the wii to come. Such titles include Mario Party, Mario Galaxy, Smash Bros Brawl, Dance Dance Revolution - Hot Party, Metroid, and games that explores the wii fully. At this current moment the only games out for the wii are single player games that does not take advantage of the wifi and/or wireless internet capabilities it haves.

No Wiis in Puerto Rico either, and I mean the entire island. I'm glad I waited in line for 27 hours for mine on launch day.

I can see plenty of Japanese and North American Wiis here. I see so many, in fact, that perhaps that's why you guys can't find any back in the US - we've hoarded them all!

Seriously though, I have no idea why you guys have a problem locating a Wii. A couple of months ago, when there was the [severe] Wii shortage in the US, the console was being sold at 475USD here - way too expensive for my taste.

What'd I do? I found out in Joystiq on a Friday that there were rumors of a shipment that was going to be available at some major online retailers on the coming Sunday. So, I called my brother-in-law (Stamford, Connecticut) at 8:50 in the morning:

"Hey, are you close to a Best Buy or a Target?"

"About 10 minutes away. Why?"

Well, I heard there is a rumor that there will be a new shipment of Wiis being sold today. Can you please do me a favor and head out to see if they do have any in stock?"

"OK." I'll be there at 10-ish."

I waited for an hour, and he called back.

"Yep, they had it. I asked the guy, and he said they just got a shipment."

"Did you stay in line or anything like that?"

"No, I just walked in - the place was pretty empty."  (they just opened, mind)

So, he sent me the Wii with a Wavebird.

What I cannot fathom is why is it that I, despite living halfway across the globe, am able to score a Wii on my first try at retail prices! Some of you must not be trying hard enough, or I just got extremely lucky.

In any case, wh have Wiis - loads of them. Everywhere. Same for Xbox 360s and PS3s.

It's great living here...

Stof - I thought I saw a wild turkey here, but it was just a turkey vulture. So much for Texas having wild turkeys :(
"your mother" - you just got lucky. You heard a rumor and acted on it. Thats when people usually get Wiis, on sunday. They are not available any other day in the bigger stores, usually.

greater LA, no Wii's either, at least in my region of greater LA.  a friend got one by getting in line at a circuit city about an hour before they opened.

another friend worked his magic and got a wii the day before they're supposed to sell them--he somehow sweet talked the sales-lady into it.  no collateral either!

the Wii is an epidemic.

Given the chronic shortages and widespread demand, you might as well change your signature to "the Wii is a pandemic."

Forget to tell everyone, Im near portland Oregon!!!

Sweet, I live in Silverton, Oregon. Wii's are very hard to find in the Salem area of Oregon. I waited in line 9 hours on a Tuesday night to get a Wii, and I have played it every day since December 4th when I got it.

I was able to pick a Wii up at a Target in the Philadelphia, PA area last Sunday by standing in line shortly before the store opened. All the consoles were spoken for by the time the store opened, however. Since I'm a really nice guy, I let a coworker buy it off of me at cost and will continue to wait to get my own until later this year. (Oh, and now I'm looking for another Wii system for my boss!)

Numbers are like people. Torture them enough and you can get them to say anything you want.
