I can see plenty of Japanese and North American Wiis here. I see so many, in fact, that perhaps that's why you guys can't find any back in the US - we've hoarded them all!
Seriously though, I have no idea why you guys have a problem locating a Wii. A couple of months ago, when there was the [severe] Wii shortage in the US, the console was being sold at 475USD here - way too expensive for my taste.
What'd I do? I found out in Joystiq on a Friday that there were rumors of a shipment that was going to be available at some major online retailers on the coming Sunday. So, I called my brother-in-law (Stamford, Connecticut) at 8:50 in the morning:
"Hey, are you close to a Best Buy or a Target?"
"About 10 minutes away. Why?"
Well, I heard there is a rumor that there will be a new shipment of Wiis being sold today. Can you please do me a favor and head out to see if they do have any in stock?"
"OK." I'll be there at 10-ish."
I waited for an hour, and he called back.
"Yep, they had it. I asked the guy, and he said they just got a shipment."
"Did you stay in line or anything like that?"
"No, I just walked in - the place was pretty empty." (they just opened, mind)
So, he sent me the Wii with a Wavebird.
What I cannot fathom is why is it that I, despite living halfway across the globe, am able to score a Wii on my first try at retail prices! Some of you must not be trying hard enough, or I just got extremely lucky.
In any case, wh have Wiis - loads of them. Everywhere. Same for Xbox 360s and PS3s.
It's great living here...
