Forums - Microsoft - Will the Xbone be Microsofts last console?

They are profiting and have the industry's biggest market on lock down. Why on Earth would they be on the verge of exiting lol.

No.

Yes.

Last from microsoft.

Not the last xbox.

Company will be split off and at least try one gen on their own.

Pretty much yes, it still stands. Even though I found out they werent majorly profiting off of the Zune, they kept the fumes burning on the Zune as a product because they wanted to keep trying to be the thorn in Apples side. Now they are trying to Windows Mobile, which I doubt is hurting Apple unless they made some kind of deal with Samsung. I still maintain they want to dominate the competition. Microsoft got in trouble for trying to start a Monopoly and was forced to split its company up into parts in 2000. You don't have to believe me, all you have to do is see who they are focused on to understand the point. It was around that same year that they were preparing for the Xbox....and can we guess why Microsoft joined?

Why they got in the gaming business is not really relevant to the question asked in this thread. The video game business is making them money right now and they won't quit unless it stops making money. Being able to dominate the competition may be the ultimate goal, what they strive for, but it doesn't mean that getting 2nd or 3rd place will make them ditch a profitable venture.

Yep, I dont believe they will leave as long as they cut down Sonys marketshare. Thats their whole goal, to keep chopping it down. If they are succeeding, why should they leave?

Depends on how much the Xbox One sells in the end

Xbox Series, PS5 and Switch (+ Many Retro Consoles)

No i mean sales. You can't profit without many sales and without that you won't get many games on the system, so sales are more important as they drive profits.

You can profit by selling less. It depends on if you are selling at a lose or not.

Let's be real here. The original Xbox was not some huge success. The 360 willl be lucky to squeeze by the wii for 2nd place and Microsoft is already under the gun fighting off all the bad publicity of their new system and gamers saying PS3 had a better variety.

I know Microsoft has endless money, but what could make them quit?

obviously not Japan. So what?

Judging by a big portion of your posts, you live in your own bubble and don't travel out much.

MS has made the most money this gen. Numbers only matter in profit. Meaning you might want to make this thread about Sony. They may be in second but the hole in their pocket is smoking.

Except history from this very gen says otherwise. If sales mattered more then profit, MS wouldn't have been coasting on 2008 NA prices. By contrast, Sony went through $150 in price cuts since 2009 and not one but 2 slim redesigns. It is truly baffling how many missed opportunities MS missed with price cuts in the last 2-3 years.

MS profited and coasted on steady sales for almost 5, count 5 years.

If Xbox One bombs (Does 20-30 Million) and more importantly fails to make a profit.  With people encroaching on MS's OS dominance, it would just be smart for them to cut there losses and make the following Xbox devices a proper media box with streaming games...
