I thought that even the most powerful gaming rigs aren't able to run this game max settings and maintain a steady framerate.

They aren't.   Because the game doesn't properly allow multicore threading.  If it did... it'd be pretty easy to run this at max framreate with max settings.

Which is what they are planning to fix in the port.

It's a demadning game... but only because of developer inadequcy.  If it were programmed correctly it would run on much weaker hardware.

Why did it take so long for someone to bring this up? Surprised more people don't know PS2 runs horribly because of this.

That's the best part about the new consoles. Since ports are going to be so easy now, look forward to even more optimisation on PC as well, hopefully...

Lack of PC gamers, therefore lack of people who have actually played Planetside 2.   I mean sure CGI Quality did, but he has a developer level PC.  Outside people who play Planetside 2 it's weird single core focus isn't well known.

That they're finally going to fix something they said was going to exist at launch, and were promising to fix for ages now is good news.... because well... it IS a fun game.

It's a game i'd recommend on PS4 for sure.

Just a quick note: They didn't really say anything about framerate. Not that it changes the graphics even if it is 30 FPS... But you guys should really consider this.

PC gamer here, yet i never played planetside 2 and my pc isn't good enough to rn it at max settings. I can barely run the witcher 2 at high.

Talking about it the devs released a HUGE update today.

Game Update 13

- Automated server recommendations
- Improved respawn logic
- An improved tutorial
- New weapons and other equipment
- Vehicle reworks
- UI tweaks
- Lots of gameplay rebalancing

Reason PS2 doesnt run well on modern computers is because it pushes the boundaries of the CPU and it just doesn't have multi-core support...yet.

It will get better once they port it back to PC from PS4 though, John Smedley confirmed this on twitter some weeks ago. Bit annoyed we have to wait for the console version to get something that should have been a focus in the first place...

It is not just that... the PS2 uses a way different archicture so you have to make every call to CPU/GPU on PS2 to run transalated in the PC CPU/GPU... that's make the performance goes to hell.

More complex... more work... less performance to emulate a hardware.

That's the same point you maybe will never see a PS3 emulation in PC... I think it is easy to have a PS4 emulator soon than a PS3 one... and I think there is no hardware on PC that can emulate the CELL today.

It is not about power... PC hardware destroy PS3 hardware but it can't emulate the Cell.

i hope so, it should also easily run on a decent pc with at least 30fps if the developers wouldn't have fucked it up so much. another game which runs much worse as it should is metro 2033. that game could easily run much better on the same systems it is struggling on.

some great games coming to ps4 as f2p... I'm excited to check this out... definitely will be building up a backlog of games to play on PS4 very quickly

Sorry but its no longer free to play. How are people even still thinking that? Sony openly stated anything online requires that you pay. That means any free to play PC game is now suddenly pay to play on PS4. Tbh there is  a valid reason they are free to play, they arent worth a monthy subscription fee.

Also we need to remember that PS4 has a mobile chip in it not a standard PC chip. Its not going to preform like a PC

Glad PS4 runs on a PC-based hardware architecture, it's loads easier to port games around.

PS2 actually has very good GPU optimization, u can monitor whetever ur performance is constrained by GPU/CPU by pressing ALT+F ingame

Actually anyone who plays PS2 here, do this. If you see light blue colored text on the lower left corner next to your FPS to be "[CPU]", raise ur settings. Suprisingly that tends to have a positive effect on performance. There's some optimization guides on the forums too, those are really helpful too.

I feel people are really underestimating the difficulty of the task that is optimizing PS2, we've had multiple discussions about this on the Planetside 2 official forums many times before. The game is completely different from any other shooter on the market now, multi-core optimization is effin hard and they're doing it on a completely new engine (that keeps evolving with the game) with loads of things happening simultaneously that have to be tracked.

But yeah, just wait it out and it should get lot better for PC too

That's a pretty old version, the new menus don't even look like that, are you able to find a more recent benchmark to compare? Will the PS4 version also have PhysX type support we see in the PC version?

PS4 have PhysX support but I don't know if this game will use...

This is from April build: http://youtu.be/bq7w1ktn2Ek

FPS:
Recording:
25-30 Average-30

Not Recording:
30-50 Average-45

Full System Specs:
CPU - Intel Pentium G860 Dual Core 3.0GHz
PSU - Corsair CX600
GPU - EVGA GTX SSC 650 Ti 1GB
Motherboard - ASRock Z75 Pro3
HDD - 500GB SATA III (6.0Gb/s) Western Digital WD Blue
RES - 1920x1080 (16:9) (1080p)
RAM - Crucial Ballistix Sport 4GB

Same results found in the graph that I posted early.

That's actually pretty good for a 650 Ti on a dual core CPU, 1080p 60FPS on PS4 isn't far fetched then. I wonder how it'd run with modified inf file on that setup.
