Reason PS2 doesnt run well on modern computers is because it pushes the boundaries of the CPU and it just doesn't have multi-core support...yet.

It will get better once they port it back to PC from PS4 though, John Smedley confirmed this on twitter some weeks ago.

It is not just that... the PS2 uses a way different archicture so you have to make every call to CPU/GPU on PS2 to run transalated in the PC CPU/GPU... that's make the performance goes to hell.

More complex... more work... less performance to emulate a hardware.

That's the same point you maybe will never see a PS3 emulation in PC... I think it is easy to have a PS4 emulator soon than a PS3 one... and I think there is no hardware on PC that can emulate the CELL today.

It is not about power... PC hardware destroy PS3 hardware but it can't emulate the Cell.

Glad PS4 runs on a PC-based hardware architecture, it's loads easier to port games around.

PS2 actually has very good GPU optimization, u can monitor whetever ur performance is constrained by GPU/CPU by pressing ALT+F ingame

Actually anyone who plays PS2 here, do this. If you see light blue colored text on the lower left corner next to your FPS to be "[CPU]", raise ur settings. Suprisingly that tends to have a positive effect on performance. There's some optimization guides on the forums too, those are really helpful too.

I feel people are really underestimating the difficulty of the task that is optimizing PS2, we've had multiple discussions about this on the Planetside 2 official forums many times before. The game is completely different from any other shooter on the market now, multi-core optimization is effin hard and they're doing it on a completely new engine (that keeps evolving with the game) with loads of things happening simultaneously that have to be tracked.

But yeah, just wait it out and it should get lot better for PC too
