just remembered a valid point. Nintendo doesn't make the best controllers; they make the second best controllers. Every time they innovate, sony just steals the innovation and improves on it. So yeah, they don't make the best controllers.

That can go both ways, remind me again what was the first controller with dual analog sticks?

actually i think you just accidentally agreed with me.  What was the 1st controller with one analog stick?  how do you improve that?  add another analog stick.  Original playstation controllers had no analog sticks and only added dual after both 64 and ps1 launched.  Not bitter about it either.  I have no problem with a company making improvements on ideas.

The Wii controller is great for FPS games like Metroid Prime. Its almost as accurate as mouse controls.

For me I get tired of holding my arm up after a while.

Really? I keep my arm in my lap and move the Wii controller with my wrist so i dont have to hold my arm up. Its quite comfortable imo.

That is very bad for your wrist, I used to know the exact details but I forgot them XD.  Basically you can get carpel tunnel syndrome.  There is this nerve in your wirst, I forgot the exact name, and when you bend your wrist you are compressing that nerve and exerting a stress to it.

Lol, ok i'll try not to bend my wrist too much. I actually have the settings of Metroid Prime 3 set to extra sensitive, so i barely have to move my wrist at all.

NES- Solid
SNES-Good
N64- Horseshit
GCN- The best controller of all time
Wii- Eww
Wii U-very comfy

I've played hundreds of hours of Wii FPS controls with my wrist sitting on my leg, and I never got sore from it.

I'm with BossPuma, it's a fantastic way to play, very accurate and immersive. I even prefer it over a mouse as I feel more of a connection to the actual act of aiming. MP3 was the best but Goldeneye, Red Steel 2, World at War, Black Ops II, and Medal of Honor Heroes 2 rocked as well.

Agreed, Puma and Curl.

Wrist would hurt on me after playing CoD on Wii a few hours.  That meant break time for me after trying to shake it off a few times.  I would put my elbow on my knee while playing (use wrist to aim back and forth).  Wrist definitely would hurt after awhile.  Didn't mind it too much since I would have played a lot by the time it was time for a break.

I'm really rather shocked by how many people are saying "GC was the best controller ever".

I wonder, are most of the people saying that people who the GC was their first real console? Or the one they "grew up" with? Just wondering if it's nostalgia talking, or if they really like the controller that much.

To me, barring the existence of analog sticks, the SNES controller was pretty much the most perfect controller ever crafted. Perfect size and shape, great amount of buttons, perfect button placement, great dpad, you name it. It took everything that was great about the NES controller, but added to it and did it better.

The GC controller, while good, had a couple of glaring issues. Namely:

1. The "analog" L and R buttons were a chore to press down. In games where you have to hold down R, for example, quite a lot, it got to the point where my finger were start aching. I just don't see the point of having resistance in a button press like that. Serves no actual useful function, so to me that was a bad design.

2. Tiny ass dpad. They made that sucker WAY too small. It is functionally useless for things like fighting games, because who the hell honestly wants to use such a micro-dpad to control something, much less try to pull off complex directional entries? Also, in all blunt honesty, a horrible design.

As for the rest of the controller, and especially the Wavebird form of it, it was fine. I was fine with it beyond those two things. You could make a strong argument that instead of a "c-stick" (replacing the N64 c buttons), they could have just had a second analog stick. And while I didn't have a problem with it, I had several friends of the time who, while mostly trolling (because they liked PS2 or Xbox better), kept insisting that the GC controller had a "confusing" button layout. I do personally prefer the SNES set up (which the Wii U Gamepad has), and I must say, another solid potential candidate for "bad design" was the GC "z button", a tiny, useless little thing hidden in front of the r button. Really bad placement, the only thing worse was the "z button" placement on the original design Wii Classic controllers. What they did wit the Classic Controller Pro (the Wii one, not the new Wii U one), and the GamePad, is MUCH preferred.

All in all, the GC controller is fine, and the Wavebird is super convenient to use. But really, at least personally, the GC design has too many functional flaws, to me, to call it "the best" anything.

I disagree.  My wrist would hurt after 2-3 hours of playing FPS on Wii.
