I always cringe when people tell me that Sony are late comers to this "indie dev support" lark when they have been doing it since the psOne days.

Anyone who wanted to develop for the original platform could order a special psOne console from Sony

And use it to make your own games. I'm not sure how others got their hands on these games but for me, it was always through OPM's demo discs. Whilst a number of them were forgetable, there were some true gems hidden within (at least in my opinion)

Total Soccer

This game, in my opinion (at the time) was one of the best football games I'd ever played. The controls were tricky but once you got the hang of it, I easily sunk hours into it because it was truely glorious in what it had to offer both in content and delivery.

Blitter Boy

I'll admit, whilst it's not my favourite, it is one of the most popular and most competent games on the system. Simple premise, competent gameplay and you have yourself a very note worthy game.

Psychon

A top down shooter with more depth than meets the eye, very enjoyable game if given the chance.

Terra Incognita

This for many was the poster boy of Net yaroze games, a Zelda-esque platforming/puzzler/RPG game which you only had 1 hour to complete...I never could do it!

And these are just a few, Rocks 'n' Gems, Between the Eyes, Gravitation and many more.

Brilliant console and some great experiences. (typically my videos aren't appearing.)

Eurogamer did an article on the subject, looking back at Sony's first push for Indie Devs.

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

Sure I do. He's been a member here for 5 years now.

Yes. Surely posting will give it away. I will just say, "Blitter Boy".

Hmm, pie.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

The reason I bought PlayStation magazines during the PS1 era was about 80% because I wanted the demo disk with the Net Yaroze games on (the remaining 20% being actually wanting to read the magazine.

Some really great games.  I still have the demo disks and go back to them from time to time.  Some of my favourite games included:

- Terra Incognita

- Between the Eyes

- Blitter Boy

- Haunted Maze

- Time Slip

And one I can't remember the name of but it was a two player game where you were penguins and you had to throw snowballs at each other.

In fact, this disk:

Was the holy grail of Yaroze, despite the misleading cover.  Had a collection of like 20 different games on it; spent hours of my life playing that.

There's probably some other stuff I'm forgetting, but yeah, good times :)

OH MY GOD YES!!! I remember that disc, I've had 2 versions of that disk and lost both of them :( I think that is where I found my favourite Net Yaroze game of all time
