More clarification:
If you wanted to buy the cheapest PS3 in November of 2006, it was five hundred dollars. If you wanted to buy the cheapest PS3 in July of 2007 (Post 80 gig intro, 60 gig "price drop") it was five hundred dollars... now is that a price drop? No.
If you wanted to buy the cheapest PS3 in July it was 500. If you wanted to buy the cheapest PS3 in November of 2007 (post new sku) it was $400.
So in essence. the PS3's price point for the cheapest model has dropped one hundred dollars. The same applies to the high-end model. Therefore, sony has only dropped the PS3s price $100.
I believe that the US market saw two price cuts, as there were two seperate cuts to the minimum PS3 entry price.
However, here in Australia we have had just one cut. At launch, the only available PS3 was around $US900, it is now at around $US640. Only a company that is desperate has a $US260 price cut in its first year in a market. Thats not to say Sony are still desperate, but they definitely were. Then again, only a company that is very egotistical prices a games console with no good games at $US900. Then again, at $US640, with only marginally better games and no BC or rumble, we are still getting screwed.

Starcraft. You do realize sony was able to cut the price dont you.
How many months if any were inbetween the reductions in price? If any, how can that be regarded as one action?

| Played_Out said: It's clear as crystal, but that won't stop people insisting that Sony slashed the price by $200. I'll wager that line is used at least once a day on these forums. |
The entry level price has dropped by 100 and the high end price dropped by 100 but the big difference what you seem to overlook is the fact that unlike with the 20GB entry level system before Sony actually seems to eb pushing the 40GB entry level model much more. Which makes it a viable system. I am sorry but the 20GB model was forgotten about a few months after launch as sony and stores were pushing the 60GB model. In fact if you want ot be strict about in July 2007 entry level was actually 600 as the 20GB model was discountined before the announcement of the 80GB SKU 60GB/clearance.
It was Sony fans screaming the loudest they were getting price cuts. Now it's being called something different. Make up your damn minds.
Basically what he is saying is that no SKU has recieved more than one (1) price cut.
It is fair to say that the minimum price to purchase a PS3 has dropped by $100 since launch, and the maximum price to purchase a PS3 has dropped by $100 since launch. So if you feel the need to look at the PS3 as a single product (rather than accept that each individual SKU is its own product) then looking at it that way the PS3 has recieved a single $100 price cut.
Its not complicated really. Short of some very warped logic the PS3 has effectively had 1 price drop for $100.
@Fishy,
/agree It used to be blasphemy for anyone to say it had only 1 price cut...now they insist on it...at least I agree with them now =P
@ FishyJoe
Hmm... I would expect more poise and tact from a mod. Sad really.
You shouldn't go around saying things like that. You'll lose respect quickly.
